Presented by: Matthew Brady
Innovations in Steel
in West Bloomfield, MI on March 8, 2016
This program demonstrated how recent steel industry innovations allow specifiers to easily express their
design concepts and overcome client serviceability concerns. Examples of framing systems that achieve low
floor-to-floor heights and long spans for economies of construction cost and schedule were discussed -
including project successes utilizing these innovations. Attendees learned how steel wide flange shapes and
hollow structural sections are manufactured, current market conditions, and the basics of steel and
sustainability. Examples of the benefits to specific project cost and schedule due to improvements in both
fabrication equipment and delivery process using Building Information Modeling (BIM) were also covered. AIA
