Moral Panic
What is Moral Panic?
• Moral panic highlight the concerns within
society when something is defined to impose
a threat on societal values and interests.
• Cohen stated that the media had overreacted
to behaviour which may be seen as a
challenge to social norms.
• Examples could include the society first
becoming threatened by terrorists as they
thought that the terrorists would be a huge
threat to them.
• Also an example from the recent times could
include burglary which has been happening
quite often. This could be related back to a
horror movie such as Scream as the guy in
scream also enters the house in this sort of
burglary manor.
