The president of the Republic of Ghana, Dr John Dramani Mahama who
is in Botswana for a three days state visit is expected to officiate at the
official opening of Dikgatlhong Dam on the tenth of March at Robelela
Village.
Dikgatlhong dam project which cost one thousand and two hundred
billion Pula, took over five years for it to be constructed and it was
completed in 2011. This project is a reflection of forward planning and
innovation that is required for providing the nation with water.
It is Botswana’s largest dam with water holding capacity of 400 million
cubic meters. It is built in the Northern part of Botswana but the intended
beneficiaries are mainly in the Southern part of the country. The dam has
been recently handed over to the Water Utilities Corporation.
The President of Botswana Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama
and the Vice President of Botswana Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi are also
expected to grace the event.

Orange P.M.B 12/03/15 1pm
Orange Botswana Director of Corporate Affairs Mrs Lepata Mafa says
that, the usage of the 4G technology is going well as the company has
improved accessibility of superfast mobile internet in Gaborone ever since
its commercial launch mid-February.
Mrs Mafa says that 4G is rapidly changing mobile behavior as customers
have increased data usage. She says that 4G users download greater
volumes of data much faster and this frees up the network resources for
other users of 2G and 3G that use network at slower rate.
Orange has also introduced an affordable device called Orange Roya.
This is a 4G android smartphone that offers specifications and features
associated with expensive devices.
Currently, there are 25 live Orange 4G sites in Gaborone and they will
continue to increase them to 40. The company also plans to have 101 sites
across the country.

Gbagbo P.M.B 12/03/15 1pm
A court in Ivory Coast has on Tuesday sentenced the wife to the former
Ivorian president, Simone Gbagbo (Babo) to a 20-years jail term on
charges of undermining the state security during post-election violence in
2011 that left nearly three thousand people dead.
The violence broke out in 2010 when the former Ivorian president Mr
Laurent Gbagbo (Logang Babo) refused to accept defeat to Mr Alassane
Ouattara who was declared the winner of the presidential poll.
The 65 year old is also charged for disturbing public order and organizing
armed gangs in the aftermath of the country’s election five years ago. Mr
Gbagbo's son from a previous marriage Michel, is also sentenced to five
years in prison for his role in the violence.
However, Mr Gbagbo is awaiting trial at the International Criminal Court
in The Hague for crimes including rape, murder and persecuting political
opponents during his reign of Ivory Coast. Mr Gbagbo's arrest and
detention in The Hague is welcomed by human rights groups.

Lungu P.M.B 12/03/15 1pm
The newly elected Zambian President Mr Edgar Lungu has been
discharged from the hospital where he has been receiving treatment
following his collapse over the weekend at the International Women’s day
event at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
President Lungu is confirmed to be suffering from achalasia (a narrowing
of the oesophagus) and it is the one which led to his collapse. He had the
same condition 30 years ago at Lusaka's University Teaching Hospital and
had it treated.
Doctors have recommended the president undergo an advanced medical
procedure that is not available in Zambia and have referred him for
specialized treatment abroad.
The 58-year-old leader says that he is feeling much better and have been
told that he has high levels of fatigue and should take some rest.

President Lungu won the presidential election this year in January after
the late President Michael Sata's death left the post vacant and is due to
serve the remainder of Mr Sata's term, until elections in 2016.

Hale P.M.B 12/03/15 1pm
The United States of America (USA) President Barack Obama, has
nominated Ambassador David Hale as the next ambassador to Pakistan.
If confirmed by the Senate, Ambassador Hale would replace Ambassador
Cameron Munter who has been in the position since September 2012.
Ambassador Hale joined the Foreign Service in 1984 and he is currently
serving as the US Ambassador to Lebanon in a position he held ever since
2013.
The 54 years old diplomat was the United States Ambassador to the
Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as from 2005 to 2008, Deputy Envoy for
Middle East Peace from 2009 to 2011 and Special Envoy from 2011 to
2013.
Ambassador Hale has worked as Executive Assistant to Secretary of State
Albright, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israel and the Levant,
Director for Israel and Palestinian Affairs and executive assistant to the
secretary of state and in other positions overseas in Lebanon and Saudi
Arabia.

In 2013 Secretary Clinton gave him the Distinguished Service Award, and
Ambassador Hale has several Department Superior and Meritorious
Honor awards.

Intervarsity P.M.B 12/03/15 1pm
University of Botswana (UB) is ready to host this year’s Botswana
Lesotho Swaziland Intervarsity games as from the eighth to the 13th of
March.
The games’ general manager, Mr Raj Rathedi says that everything is in
place and the institution is ready to play host. He says that their mission
is to host an event of high quality with the resources that they have.
Mrs Barbara Pansiri who is in charge of accommodation, says that they
are expecting one thousand and four hundred delegates of which 700 is a
total of Lesotho and Swaziland athletes.
Mrs Pansiri says that she is happy with the support that other institutions
like Botswana College of Agriculture and Botswana Police College are
offering.
The head of security, Mr Mogae Motswaledi says that the event is likely
to attract many spectators therefore security will be very tight.

Mr Motswaledi says that Botswana Police Service, UB Protection
Services and other security companies would be engaged.
Both visiting teams are to arrive on the seventh of March.

Dikgatlhong dam project which cost one thousand and two hundred billion Pula, took over five years for it to be constructed and it was completed in 2011.
