Paul wrote to the Corinthians out of great distress, anguish, and many tears due to the deep love he had for them. He did not intend to grieve them but rather wanted them to understand the abundant love he felt for them in his heart despite his suffering. He wrote to them from a place of great affliction and anxiety to assure them of his continuing love.
