The Temple of Literature in Hanoi, Vietnam honors Confucius and those who passed the rigorous imperial examinations to become mandarins in the government. It was founded in 1070 by Emperor Ly Thanh Tong to serve as a place of learning and worship of Confucius. The temple grounds contain stone steles with the names of the top scholars of each provincial examination inscribed to honor their achievement.
