4. “Roots”
Spyros and Myra Tsiavlis established Suntrak Enterprises in 1977.
Prior to founding Suntrak Enterprises Spyros was a talented and
driven export manager for VYI Sunglasses. In the 1970’s VYI
Sunglasses was one of the most popular brands in Australia and
Spyros took a huge gamble by going out on his own. Despite the
risk that taking on the big end of town involved, Spyros trusted
that his skills in import/export negotiation and his love of sunglass
fashion would see Suntrak prosper.
Ever-improving market conditions and healthy business practice
ensured Spyros and Suntrak Enterprises would successfully push
through into the 1980’s. In this period Suntrak Enterprises secured
trading terms with numerous South Australian department stores
and Suntrak Enterprises’ good reputation grew.
The company’s strong standing as a market leader in quality,
service and price on a local level resulted in an opportunity
for Spyros to meet with both David Jones and Myer. These
meetings resulted in a fantastic chance to fill some small orders
for David Jones and Myer in South Australia. The initial sales of
Suntrak product at Myer and David Jones exceeded all client
expectations. From these initial successes grew long-term national
business relationships and the Suntrak Enterprises success story
was born.
