South Delhi Police have stumbled upon an inter-state gang which duped
people of crores of rupees on the pretext of facilitating seats in top medical
colleges of the country . The gang is suspected to have cheated around 100
people.
While cops have arrested one of the key suspects with the help of one of the
victims, they are raiding several places in UP and Bihar to arrest other gang
members. DCP (south) Prem Nath confirmed the arrest. “Our probe is at an
initial stage,“ he said.
The arrested, identified as Murari Abhiraj, is a Btech. student. He duped a
senior government official based in Lodhi Colony of around Rs 20 lakh after
promising him a seat in colleges in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Cops have
booked him under IPC sections of cheating and criminal conspiracy .

Murari's interrogation has revealed that the victims include a judge, who was
duped of Rs 52 lakh, as well as hoteliers, government officials, businessmen
and even doctors.
Cops believe the gang, whose operations are spread over several states, may
be involved in the AIPMT exam paper leak. Sources said the gang offered
seats in Kasturba Medical College, Manipal for Rs 60 lakh, King George's
Medical University , Lucknow for Rs 40 lakh, among others.
The gang had formed a fake company and posed as education consultants.
They also ran a website called All The Best consultancies. Admission seekers
were fished out from schools and social networking websites after which
they were contacted through text messages.

In the case that helped nab the accused, the victim Rajendra Singh got
a text message last year from one Sahil about admissions and reverted
to them. He was promised admission through management quota and
paid Rs 1 lakh before their process had begun. “They asked me for Rs
25 lakh to which I agreed,“ Singh said.
Singh was told the admission letter would come by post, but it never
did and the phones of the gang members were found switched off.
