PREPARING ALL STUDENTS
FOR COLLEGE, CAREER,
AND Life
COACHELLA VALLEY ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP | WORKFORCE EXCELLENCE
Coachella Valley Economic Partnership convenes
local business, civic, and education partners to
implement the Regional Plan for College and Career
Readiness, which focuses on preparing all students
for college, career, and life. Working backward
from workforce needs, the initiative provides
students with meaningful career explorations, work
experience, and scholarships and also supports
college success.
Veronica Ruiz, a Coachella Valley High School and University of Redlands
graduate, now works for Renova Solar, based in Palm Desert.

“The 71,000+ students in the Coachella Valley are our
future workforce, leaders and entrepreneurs. We are
aligning regional efforts to ensure that all students
graduate high school prepared to succeed. Their
success will help the local economy thrive.”
Sheila Thornton
Vice President, Workforce Excellence
W e h av e a p l a n ! Seventy-five regional stakeholders
wrote and adopted the Coachella Valley Regional Plan for
College and Career Readiness — a five-year framework
outlining how business and education will collaborate to
increase high school graduation rates, college readiness,
college/higher-skills training completion, and career
readiness and ensure local students secure higher-wage
jobs in the Coachella Valley.
A f f e c t p o s i t i v e ch a n g e in education, and

Connects classroom studies with student interests and
career aspirations, personalizing high school education
and providing students with experiential learning where
they can work alongside professionals. Experiences include
career explorations, internships, job shadowing, mentoring,
and externships for faculty at industry partner sites.

Convene business, education, community, and student
partners to strengthen career academy and pathway
programs. Councils review labor market information,
assess workforce needs, provide input on career pathway
programs, and engage teachers and students in experiences
that help them better understand the types of career paths
and higher-wage jobs available across the region. CVEP
currently facilitates three councils — Healthcare; Advanced
Technology; and Arts, Media and Entertainment — and
will add others as labor needs emerge.
S ch o l a rsh i ps a n d F i n a n c i a l A i d
Links scholarship-giving organizations and student support
systems in the Coachella Valley through a regional scholarship
application network. In partnership with the College Access
Foundation of California, CVEP provides matching funds to
local organizations to increase college access and completion
for low-income and underserved students. CVEP promotes
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) — the
most important application for students to complete to be
considered for free federal funding for college — and the
Cal Grant, awarded to eligible college students attending
California colleges and universities.
Why you should partner with us
When students
love what they’re learning,
they work harder, dream bigger,
and learn more.
CVEP scholarship recipient Nelson Maravilla (left) earned a bachelor’s degree in
nursing from CSU San Bernardino and now works in the Emergency Department
at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
Business and community partners
can ignite student success
by supporting their career and
college pathway.
