I. PURPOSE
To establish a procedure for processing dog license tags that were mailed and returned to
Orange County Animal Care Service (OCACS) for insufficient or incorrect addresses.
II. POLICY
All undeliverable returned dog license tags will be processed in accordance with Internal
Audit’s recommendation to ensure proper tracking and recording of liquid assets.
III. SCOPE
Applicable to all licensing support personnel assigned to process undeliverable returned dog
license tags.

VI. DEFINITIONS

VII. PROCEDURE
A. Open envelope and place telephone call to purchaser of license tag.
B. Obtain the correct address.
C. If there has been a change of address, update the Chameleon Person ID Window with
the new address.
D. Resend the license tag in the mail.
E. If no contact is made on the first call to purchaser, the following steps shall be
completed:
1. Store or Update the Person ID Memo with the current date and time, telephone

number for which contact was attempted, and initials of employees creating or
updating the memo.
2. Purchaser's name will be placed alphabetically on a list of returned dog license
tag purchasers.
3. A second call will be placed to purchaser to obtain correct address information
in one week.
4. Returned license tags and list of purchasers to be kept on file in Returned
Licenses box for the length of the license period.
F. Each month the list of all purchasers not contacted shall be given to the Special Services
Lieutenant.
