MEDIA ALERT
ADLER PLANETARIUM’S WORLDS OF CHESLEY BONESTELL EXHIBIT
TO END THIS WEEK
WHAT: Since November 22, 2014, the Adler Planetarium has had the honor of displaying space
artwork from the “Father of Modern Space Art,” American painter, designer and
illustrator, Chesley Bonestell.
This exhibition entitled, Worlds of Chesley Bonestell, will be closing for good on April
26. This is the final chance to view Bonestell’s eleven paintings and the numerous
examples of his work in popular culture including magazines, books and film.
WHEN: April 19 – 26
Hours: Monday – Friday 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Saturday – Sunday 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
DETAILS: The Worlds of Chesley Bonestell exhibit shows works that combined his intimate
knowledge of science, with artistic talent to present a stunning vision of the future. His
paintings depicted the space shuttle, space station and our solar system long before they
were realized making him a pioneer of space art. The exhibit itself explores how
Bonestell inspired generations of science fiction fans, astronomers and astronauts through
his work. This is the final week to view the exhibit before it closes permanently.
In early June, in conjunction with the kick-off of the Adler Planetarium’s, “Summer of
Science,” the exhibition will be replaced with an on-going Community Design Lab. The
Community Design Lab will be an adaptive, co-creative space that inspires exploration
and discovery, inviting the public to join the conversation about Adler's past, present and
future. This Lab is in celebration of our past 85 years and what’s yet to come.
