have undesired effects on the body and mind. These drinks are empty
calories . They provide no nutrition to the body, and a waste of precious
money.
Why not take advantage of the variety of fruits the Lord has provided for
us in this beautiful Island.
Health is a blessing of which few appreciate the value; yet upon it the
efficiency of our mental and physical powers depends. The misuse of our
physical powers shortens the period of time in which our lives can be used
for the glory of God.

OVERCOME CRAVINGS, OR ADDICTIONS YOU HAVE CULTI-
VATED OVER THE YEARS FOR THE UNNATURAL. AND THE

DANGERS OF
SOFT DRINKS
Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is
merciful. The Lord preserveth the simple: What shall I
render unto the Lord for all his benefits
toward me?” Ps 116 5,6,11
The soul that responds to the grace of God shall be
like a watered garden. His health shall spring forth
speedily; his light shall rise in obscurity, and the glory
of the Lord shall be seen upon him.
Anything that lessens the physical strength, enfeebles
the mind and makes it less capable of discriminating
between right and wrong .

2. Over the past decade the soft drink industry has grown into a multi-
million dollar business. Right here in Trinidad and Tobago only a few
years ago there were few brands of soft drinks from which to choose.
Nowadays this number has increased considerably, with an increase in
flavors and colors.
With manufacturering costs being cheaper due to improved technolo-
gy along with the cost of plastic containers, the price of soft drinks
have remained stable enough for all to afford. This is an advantage to
the consumer from an economic standpoint. BUT in terms of
HEALTH, this is no advantage.
Have you ever taken time to read the LABELS of these drinks that you
consume?
Have you ever tried defining some of the chemical ingredients and its
effects?
Next time you buy a soft drink, observe the ingredients and you will
see some if not all of the following contents: SUGAR, CARBONATED
WATER, CARAMEL COLOUR, PHOSPHORIC ACID, ARTIFI-
CIAL FLAVOR, SUCROSE, SODIUM BENZOATE.
CONSIDER THIS:
 What gives soft drinks that “Fizz” effect?
 What is used to give soft drink its color?
 Why do you still feel thirsty after drinking a soft drink?
 What about cream sodas, the ever popular SPRITE and 7Up?
 Why do people get addicted to Colas (Coke, Pepsi, etc. )?
Parents do their children a grave injustice by giving them soft
drinks. The amount of Sugar and unnatural sweeteners in a
single soft drink aids in slowing the child’s ability to cope with
the already heavy demands of school life.

Most times we are dehydrated.
Caffeine is an Addictive
Agent: This is the reason
why it is an active agent in
most of these drinks, not
for energy or endurance
but rather for sales and
profit at your Health’s
expense.
SUGAR: White sugar is used in
the manufacturing of soft drinks.
This sugar goes through a lot of
heating and refining to be pro-
duced. Worst of all a chemical
called Phosphoric Acid is used.
This is a corrosive ingredient,
which helps in the bleaching of
the crystals to give it that white
color.
One of the main reasons why
you feel thirsty after drinking a
soft drink is because of the
amount of sugar. Our blood cells
become starved and at this point
all we need is a good glass of wa-
ter to quench the thirst.
Carbon Dioxide & Potassium Phosphate
These are the ingredients used to give soft
drinks their FIZZ.
Carbon Dioxide apart from being an
excretory element it speeds up your heart beat
which makes you very impulsive.
Potassium Phosphate is an acid component
used in Fertilizers.
The majority cream sodas and sprite have
Sodium, Carbon and loads of white sugar.
These drinks make the stomach airy and caus-
es unnatural flatulence which may seem good
but damage vital digestive organs in the pro-
cess. There are harmless and safer natural
remedies that can be used for this problem of
gas.
Mix 1tsp of Charcoal powder with 1 glass
of water for 3 days.
Artificial Colors
Soft drinks can come in
every color from black to
white. Kids are attracted to
it even adults.
Aniline dyes are used for
the colors, derived from
compounding nitrogen &
benzene.
Benzene is obtained from
the distillation of coal. It is
used for a motor fuel, as a
solvent for resin and rub-
ber, and in the
manufacturing of dyes. As a
chemical compounds, these
dyes are harmful because
they afflict the nervous
System and the cerebro-
spinal fluid.
