NeighborSpace is a non-profit land trust
that works with local partners to acquire
land for the improvement of
communities and the environment within
Baltimore County’s growth line or “Urban
Rural Demarcation Line” (URDL). Ninety
percent of the County’s 805,000
residents live within the URDL in the
“inner-ring” suburbs shown at left on just
1/3 of the County’s total land area. Most
of this area was developed before there
were rules requiring the set-aside of
public open space when new residential
developments are
constructed.
Population is
dense, therefore,
and land is scarce,
making the
conservation of
public open space
an important
priority.
