Support to countries
IRENA is a global intergovernmental organisation serves as the principal platform for international co-operation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy. IRENA promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity.
We provide support to, and engage with those members through our three principal organs
Assembly – our primary decision making body, meets once a year in January at the start of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week
Assembly is also developing as one of the world’s most important policy level gatherings of decision makers to discuss and navigate the new energy system
Our council meets twice a year, in the late spring and early winter here in Abu Dhabi
And then there is our secretariat, which is us the staff of IRENA the engine room of the agency offering support at various levels to countries to help drive the sustainable energy agenda

Near universal membership a demonstration of the fact that the pursuit of a low carbon future is high on the political agenda, and of the fact that support from organisations such as IRENA has become increasingly important to securing a smooth and inclusive energy transition
In terms of what the secretariat support looks like, as mentioned IRENA is really a source of accurate, current and global data on renewable energy
We produce a number of reports every year, that can be global in nature but that can also be country or technology specific that allow our members to make informed energy policy decisions
All reports can be accessed and downloaded from on our website, and major reports will be supported by a press announcement and lots of communications activity around them. For the most part, our major communications efforts are global in nature and can be in multiple languages although primarily in English
