2. FORCES RECORD
7 years French Foreign Legion (2007-2014):
2007-2010 2ème REP (2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment), regimental reconnaissance platoon. Qualified as
platoon signaller (placing 1/19), entailing digital and analogue HF telegraphy, HF/VHF telephony and
counter-electronic warfare. This training encompasses planning and executing transmissions from
group to regimental command level, utilizing HF, VHF and UHF material; during foot and vehicle based
manoeuvers. Expert proficiency in the use and maintenance of all 3rd and 4th-generation Thales digital
transmission systems.
Operational deployment to Afghanistan 2010, primary function signaller/reconnaissance trooper.
Often employed as interpreter between French forces, Afghan National Army (basic Pashto) and US
forces. Platoon sergeant’s reference available on request.
2010-2012 3ème REI (3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment) based in French Guyane. Primary function platoon
signaller during anti-smuggling operations. Solely responsible for all digital and analogue high-
frequency telephonic/telegraphic and satellite-based telephonic communications for platoons based in
the deep jungle for periods of up to six weeks. Responsible for the processing, encryption and
retransmission of operational intelligence and mission reports using satellite-equipped military
computers and French military standard ACID text encryption software.
Achieved proficiency in Inmarsat, BGAN and Thuraya satellite telephony and data transmission.
Performed acting sergeant role on multiple occasions, and independently organised training and
instruction of entry-level soldiers in varied military theory. Company 2IC’s reference available on

2012-2014 2ème REP, reconnaissance and support company, headquarters platoon. Primary functions
senior company signaller (immediate supervisor and contact point for all platoon level signallers;
responsible for all company signals, including pre-mission preparation, and logistically responsible for
the company’s highly-sensitive optical/transmissions equipment) and reconnaissance team leader.
Daily duties included acting as the company command signaller, liaising directly with regimental
command, and the running of the company’s communications and optical storeroom, entailing the
calculation of required transmissions equipment according to the platoon’s mission, their ordering and
reception from regimental logistics, issuing to subordinate platoon signallers, re-reception, inspection
and necessary maintenance.
Routinely responsible for communications training of ranked individuals, NCO groups and up to thirty
unranked soldiers, from entry-level to preparation of future platoon signallers. Oversaw the conversion
of redundant foot-based radio posts to vehicle-mounted, higher-powered radio posts, and responsible
for driver training in their installation and use. Aided in the implementation of the French army’s next-
generation FELIN numerical warfare program into the company and separate platoons.
Following specialised training, responsible for the preparation and implementation of the
reconnaissance platoon’s electronic and ‘hard-copy’ mapping. Offered but declined promotion to
sergeant several times (signals function would have resulted in a purely bureaucratic role). Seconded
on several occasions to regimental command as interpreter during US and UK inter-arm training tasks.

3. RELEVANT EMPLOYMENT RECORD
Jan. 2016 – current: Following specialised training at the company’s UK facility, employed by Harris
Corporation as a bilingual field service representative based in Mogadishu, Somalia, working with
English and French-speaking African Union armed forces contingents deployed on the AMISOM mission.
Primary duties include overseeing the logistical transfer of Harris communications equipment (a typical
full shipment can have a value of over $4,000,000) to different AMISOM units; independently training
communications personnel in every level of the operation of this equipment; fixed site appraisal from
a telecommunications perspective, supporting and supervising the installation of Harris equipment into
fixed sites and vehicles; troubleshooting various hardware/software issues, liaising between AMISOM
authorities (to include contingent commanding officers, AMISOM and UNSOA communications chiefs),
Harris Corporation management and US DoD/DoS project management; and supervising the design and
implementation of different contingent’s force-wide HF/VHF/UHF telephony and data-transfer
communications plans. This posting entails routine travel to various AMISOM and highly-placed Somali
government fixed sites in and around Mogadishu using a dedicated security team, to conduct
specialised training and fixed-site installations.
