Supporting Letter for Nathan Engquist
Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
Dear selection committee:
Please accept this letter of support for Nathan Engquist’s application for the M.A. in Urban
Education Studies at Yale. I have known Mr. Engquist for approximately four years in my
capacity serving on the Council for Human Rights for Children. During my tenure I have
supervised Nathan in his attendance at an international conference at Oxford University.
I have supervised employees, interns, and students for many years. The majority of
supervisees are at the Master’s degree or Doctoral degree level. My impression of Nathan’s
capabilities is highly favorable. Mr. Engquist is mature, intelligent, and capable. Mr.
Engquist, at the Bachelor’s degree level compares favorably with my other supervisees at the
Master’s and Doctoral levels. Mr. Engquist is very respectful and professional. At Oxford
University, Mr. Engquist interfaced with an international cohort of Nobel Laureates and
distinguished professionals. Mr. Engquist was highly regarded by the cohort and represented
the Council exceedingly well.
The Oxford conference of the Council was perhaps Mr. Engquist’s greatest challenge. This
was his first time out of the United States and he was expected to perform at a high level, with
virtual around the clock interactions with very distinguished colleagues. Mr. Engquist was
able to interact in both formal and informal settings in a collegial and professional manner.
Mr. Engquist demonstrated intellectual acumen and social grace in intimidating
circumstances. I was very impressed with him. Since then, Mr. Engquist has taught
internationally in Korea and has taught in a Title I charter school. He continues to challenge
himself intellectually, academically, and through his humanitarianism.
I am most taken with Nathan’s integrity, professionalism, respect, and critical thinking. It is
my professional opinion that Mr. Engquist would make an excellent teacher. He has both the
intellectual capacity and the patience to effectively educate students in a challenged
environment.
I have no reservations whatsoever in fully recommending Mr. Engquist for Yale's M.A. in
Urban Education.
Respectfully,
Dr. Chad Hybarger
