  2. 2. VOCATION Introductory Questions: i) Which people at work do you see on your way to the nearby market? Ans: Carpenter, bike mechanic, shop keepers, butcher, scavenger etc.
  3. 3. Stanza 1 Explanation: When it is 10 am in the morning, the narrator/ boy walk s to school. Everyday he meets a bangle-seller. He is never in a hurry. He has no certain road to take. There is no particular place he has to go. There is no fixed time for him to return
  4. 4. Stanza 2 Explanation: At 4 pm when the boy returns from school, he observes the gardener digging the ground. With his spade he digs the way he likes. There is no hard and fast rule. He makes his clothes dirty. There is nobody to scold him.
  5. 5. Stanza 3 Explanation: At night through the open window he sees the watchman moving up and down the road. In the dark and lonely street , the lamp post looks like a monster with one red eye.
  6. 6. Stanza 4 Explanation: The watchman moves with his lantern. He never sleeps at night. The boy too wishes he were a watchman walking in the streets all night and following his shadows with the lantern.
