2. The power of the media is so immense that it can lead to
misconception & confusion. My home country Pakistan
has been a victim of western media over the years.
As a Pakistani, I feel I’ve a responsibility to clear up these
misconceptions. My presentation may not change
people’s perception of Pakistan. However they may
question western reporting.
3. Its not in the remote,
jungle area, but its an
area which is relatively
close to the capital of
Pakistan, it’s a scary
place
The Most Dangerous
Nation In the World Isn’t
Iraq.
It’s Pakistan
4. It is a south Asian country bordered by china and India. They
don’t speak Arabic nor they are Arabs. In many western video
games, you will see people speaking Arabic and words
written in Arabic as well.
But in reality the language of Pakistan is Urdu which is
nowhere close to Arabic, people of Pakistan are considered
Asian.
Pakistan is not a middle east country
5. This is Malala Yousufzai, the first Pakistani to win a Nobel prize.
I am proud of her and surely all Pakistanis are.
But the way western media represents her in her own
interviews brought even more confusion about Pakistan.
“I am proud that I am the first
Pakistani and the first young
person who is getting this
award”
6. In her interviews it seems all girls are banned from school in Pakistan
Of course there are problems but the question is
Are all the girls banned from going to school in Pakistan?
The answer is no a big NO
It is the northern part of Pakistan where things are going bad.
Many of the people who live in that region are conservative.
But Malala yousafzai, who herself is from northern Pakistan always
neglects to mention its happening only in some of these areas.
In big cities the story is quite different , in universities about 80 to 85
percent of Pakistani’s medical students are girls according to Dr.
Mirza Ali ( the secretary general of the Pakistan medical
association).
Women are playing such a big role in politics, Army, media it’s hard
to find any other Muslim nation as progressive.
7. Pakistan is known for its heritage, culture, music and
looks but if you mention Pakistan in the western world
people may imagine
This This Or may be this
8. This is Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, a Pakistani tennis player which
is a world top ten doubles player. After the quarter final game
at the US OPEN here is what Aisam had to say…
Every time I come here there
is a very long perception
about Pakistan that Pakistan
is a terrorist country .we are
very friendly, loving & caring
people. we want peace in this
world as much as you guys
want.
9. In the end I would like to tell you that Pakistan is not the safest
country. But there is always a bright side too. For the western
media these stories are not interesting enough to make their
breaking news.
My presentation may not change people’s perception
completely. I just want people to see beyond what they
believe and what they have been watching in the news and in
movies.
I would like to finish my presentation with…………
