This document provides information about the song "Gravity" by Sara Bareilles, including details about its production, length, and various covers of the song. It was written by Bareilles after a real heartbreak and draws inspiration from her complicated on-again off-again relationship with a popular high school athlete in her hometown, whom she fell for despite knowing he would hurt her. The song has been covered by several artists on talent shows and has over 100k views of one cover on YouTube.
The document contains feedback from focus groups and surveys that the author conducted to understand how to best advertise and market a music video. Key findings include:
- Surveys found that most of the target audience (TA) consume music videos on YouTube and download music from iTunes, so these platforms should be used for advertising.
- Feedback groups helped the author understand that the narrative and emotions in the music video were clear to viewers.
- Respondents provided positive feedback on the editing, costumes, locations and close-ups used in the video, suggesting these elements were effective in conveying the intended message.
- While most questions yielded useful information, some were redundant or could have been worded better to provide
The feedback from the TA was overwhelmingly positive. They understood the narrative of the music video, which portrayed the star as a victim of domestic violence in an abusive relationship. The TA felt the close-up shots captured the star's emotion well and her image and makeup effectively showed her bruises and represented her situation. A few responses provided additional feedback on aspects they felt could be improved, such as incorporating more camera angles in the close-ups or further exploring the complexity of the abusive partner's character. Overall though, the TA found the music video clearly portrayed its intended narrative and message.
The document provides feedback from the student's target audience (TA) on their music video idea. Through focus groups and online surveys, the TA provided positive feedback. They found that the narrative of an abusive relationship was clear. They also felt the performer was effectively portrayed as the victim through makeup showing bruises. The editing using black and white shots for flashbacks further helped clarify the meaning. Overall, the feedback indicated the high-level ideas and messages the student wanted to portray were successfully communicated to the TA through their music video.
The document discusses and compares the album covers, website designs, and promotional posters of four musical artists: Sara Bareilles, Ed Sheeran, Olly Murs, and Ella Henderson. It analyzes the color schemes, imagery, and styles used to create synergy across each artist's various marketing materials and establish a consistent house style. Elements like bright colors, symbolic images, and the artists' appearances are discussed in terms of how they might engage audiences and sell albums.

The song "Gravity" was written and performed by Sara Bareilles for her 2007 album "Little Voice". It tells the story of her first real heartbreak from a relationship in high school with a popular sports star. Though they had chemistry and fell in love, he cheated on her and they broke up, only to get back together intermittently as she went to college. The song explores the inability to stay away from someone even though you know they may hurt you again. It has since been covered by several artists on shows like American Idol and The Voice.
This document discusses the design choices made for a magazine page profile on country music artist Olly T. Conventions such as page numbers, mastheads, and pull quotes were adhered to, while other elements like bullet holes in the text and a smoking background image were manipulated. Darker clothing was used for Olly to attract an older, female audience despite bright colors typically being used for country stars. The design aims to connect to a younger audience while still appealing to the target demographic.

This document discusses the analysis of magazine front covers, listing the technologies used, magazines analyzed, artists featured, and theories about magazine cover design. It applies Mulvey's theory on using representations to attract a specific gender but argues this is no longer applicable as modern magazines aim to attract both genders.
Taylor Swift is a pop artist who originally started as a country and western singer, as shown by her acoustic guitar and boots which represent her country roots. However, she has brought elements of pop into her image as well, seen in her curled hair, makeup, and dress that are not typical of country but show her independence and strength. The document discusses using Taylor Swift's theme of blending country and pop conventions for a magazine cover.
This document analyzes and summarizes the contents pages of two magazines - Q magazine and Hammer magazine. For Q magazine, the models are dressed in black representing the rock theme, and Ricky Gervais's glare adds mystery despite his priest outfit. For Hammer magazine, the page with a band on stage uses orange representing energy and the page with a lot of blue represents power linking to electricity. Overall, analyzing these magazine contents pages provided ideas for designing their own contents page.
This cover page for a magazine includes side stories advertising 20% off stationary to entice readers. The main image uses "the gaze" theory to attract viewers of the opposite sex. This masthead is at the top of future issues with its own font that stands out against the background and helps readers. A bottom banner informs audiences about the magazine's contents. Overall the design is eye catching and modern, but could be improved with additions like a barcode, price, more side stories, date and headline.

An import error occurs when a program fails to import a module or library, disrupting its execution. In languages like Python, this issue arises when the specified module cannot be found or accessed, hindering the program's functionality. Resolving import errors is crucial for maintaining smooth software operation and uninterrupted development processes.
This document provides an overview of wound healing, its functions, stages, mechanisms, factors affecting it, and complications.
A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.

2. 1960 music video
I’m a believer – The Monkees
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EqneoPcjwU
Features in this music video:
• Group singing on stage
• Not great audio quality
• Not great camera quality
• Group don’t need mic
• A range of different camera shots
•
In this music video it shows that music videos were in the early stages of using colour so the colours were not too
vibrant. I liked this music video because it shows the basic outline of what music videos in the 1960s were like and
how they were portrayed.
3. 1970s music video
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ9rUzIMcZQ&list=PLhGxwqriFAqtWRmUrqV85rWNjQdPfcskf
Different Features in this music video
• Scene changes
• Lighting change
• Camera effects used
• Fade in shots used
• Shot reverse shots used
• Artificial lighting
•
In this music video you can see a lot of work has been put into it with the effects and editing. This music video
shows the development in technology from the 1960s as more visual effects have been used and the camera
quality has improved.
4. 1980s music video
Beat It – Michael Jackson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRdxUFDoQe0&list=PL1GnTnnMiUb5_eIZqu9kNAJ6gcPUyOT7u&index=13
Karma Chameleon – Culture Club
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmcA9LIIXWw&list=PL1GnTnnMiUb5_eIZqu9kNAJ6gcPUyOT7u&index=4
Different features in the music video
• A lot of bright colours
• Synchronised dance routine
• Symbolic objects
• Links between the music video and the music
• Stereotyping
I have chosen both these videos as they show the development in music videos in different ways. For example ‘Beat It’ shows off
the use of synchronised dance routines and how they make the music video more effective. Also Michael wears a red jacket in the
video, which is a symbolic sign of him as he wears it in other music videos (e.g. Thriller). This also introduces the theory of Bathes
‘Signs and signifiers’. The music video also introduces stereotyping as the men are wearing black leather outfits and are street
fighting and they are represented as gangsters. Whereas ‘Karma Chameleon’ uses a range of different colours and uses unique
outfits to make the lead singer stand out.
•
5. 1990s music videos
Livin’ La Vida Loca – Ricky Martin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p47fEXGabaY&list=PL8wxeLTlTkgXBk4Iup8yufRhwHbHd90C1&index=53
Different features in the music video
• Disco themed
• Flashing lights
• Full on synchronised dance routine
• Improved audio
• Extravagant outfits
• Fast camera shots
• Male gaze introduced
•
This music video shows development as there are a lot more fast action shots to represent the fast pace of the song. Also
the theory of Mulvey is introduced ‘The Male Gaze’ when Ricky looked into camera. The outfits were very typical of the
disco era as they were very vibrant and jazzy like the music. In this music video there is a strong link between the dancing
and the lyrics throughout the music video. Also the music video has shown development as the audio quality and camera
quality has improved a lot.
6. 2000s music video
Toxic – Britney Spears
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOZuxwVk7TU&index=25&list=PL5C66A990384A9242
Different features in the music video
• Starting to use visual effects
• Bringing out female sexuality
• Winship’s theory introduced
• Technology skills improved
• Transitions used
•
This music video shows off Britney’s good looks and her youth, which appeals well to her TA. They have used the stereotypical
feature of having sexual airhostesses as they are stereotyped to all be good looking, young and sexy. She also creates direct address
a lot when she sharply turns her head towards the camera, which supports the theory of Winship ‘The Gaze’ where she makes
herself sexually appealing to a male audience. The use of transitions in the video shows how music videos have developed as the
video has been edited to make the shots change my the screen spiralling around. Also they have placed a different background
behind her in one of the shots to make it look like she is in Paris but it has been edited to make everything look red to work in
cohesion of her hair and clothing.
7. 2010-16 music video
Pillowtalk – Zayn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_3d6GntKbk
Bad blood – Taylor Swift
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcIy9NiNbmo
Scream and Shout – Will.i.am .feat Britney Spears
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYtGl1dX5qI
Different features in music video
• Dominated by effects
• A lot of transitions
• Extreme looks
• Great quality of sound and picture
• Sound effects used
• Vocals changed in songs
8. 2010-16
I have chosen these three videos as I feel they truly show how music videos have developed
over the years. I feel that in most music videos a lot of effects are used to either create
meaning and emotion or to make the video more eye catching. For example in Taylor Swifts
video there are loads of explosions along with other celebrities in the video which make it so
popular. In ‘Scream and Shout’ the technology is used to the extreme where in every shot
that Will.i.am is edited in some way, which I think is very typical of him and it is what he is
known for. I particularly like the shot where the camera captures and freeze frames his
movements to clone him, I feel this shows off how far technology has come. In the song
‘Pillowtalk’ I feel that the effects are used to create representations as there is a red light on
him which represents love and evil, which suggests that it could be a dark song about one of
his lovers. This video is dominated by transitions and effects to show off how different
modern day music videos actually are. I feel the key to the development of the music videos
is due to the technology used over the years and how it has improved.
