Data Scientist
The Data Science group was formed to dramatically increase leverage of Change
Healthcare’s data assets to create material new revenue opportunities. The data assets of
more than 1,300 payers, 750,000 physicians and over 220 million Americans, totaling more
than $1.3 trillion of claims value uniquely positions Change Healthcare to improve the US

generation of data and machine learning enabled services and products to impact

3. The use of data:
The advertisement mentioned the use of machine learning to create better
healthcare products. The data set I chose focus on one of the most expensive medical
problems for people, fertility. The insights gained from the analysis may lead an innovative
approach in dealing with the risk of infertility in male, especially in the modern day.
The data set:
1. URL: https://archive.ics.uci.edu/ml/datasets/Fertility
2. Desciption:
The data was collected and shared by Lucentia Research Group, University of
Alicante on UCI Machine Learning Repository. The participants are male aged from
eighteen to thirty-six. The data set consisted of 9 variables: season in which the
analysis was performed, age, childish diseases, accident, surgical intervention, high
fevers in the last, frequency of alcohol consumption, smoking habit and number of
hours sitting in a day. The target variable is semen diagnosis.
The insights
The analysis addressed that individuals who had altered semen quality were most
like to sit from six to eight hours a day. The analysis also suggested that individuals who did
not have childish diseases had higher chance of having the semen quality altered; the same
case applied to individuals who had accidents or trauma to the relating region. The study
also suggested that surgical intervention has very little effect on semen quality. Lastly,
individuals consumed the most alcohol were at a higher risk of having altered semen
quality.

Note:
All the models perform well when it comes to analysing cases of normal sperm. KNN
performed better when it comes to pure accuracy of predictions. However, the model is
skewed in the sense that ,it failed to predict well the true-negative cases, this could be the
results of the limited amount of data in the data set. Decision tree out performed KNN in
this case with recall of 57% compare to 28% in KNN.
