FUEL PRICE BREAKDOWN
COST-PLUS PRICING
The Guttman fleet fueling cost-plus pricing model provides considerable savings opportunities, especially
on diesel fuel. Pricing is based on the wholesale cost of fuel at the closest petroleum terminal, freight to
the station, federal and state taxes, and a set markup. The set markup covers the commission paid to the
station owner and all costs incurred by the card issuing company. During the course of the year, there are
weeks when the posted retail price of diesel fuel is substantially higher than the wholesale cost of the fuel.
Typical profit margins for diesel fuel at a truck stop or service station can range from $0.15 cents per
gallon on the low end up to $0.50 cents per gallon on the high end. The wide spreads between the
wholesale cost of diesel fuel and the station's posted price provide savings opportunities during the
course of the year. The cost-plus pricing system provides measurable savings without having to drive
extra miles to fuel at a low priced station.
