1. AFTER DECADES of coping with the health
effects of type 1 diabetes, Marcia Capriotti
found herself at the Emory Transplant Center
with her husband, Bruce, awaiting a lifesaving
kidney and pancreas transplant.
“I was in shreds,” he says, recalling his over-
whelming concern for his wife. Shortly before
the operation, renowned Emory transplant
surgeon Christian Larsen came to speak to the
couple. “He made us feel so at ease,” she says.
The experience inspired them to leave a
portion of their estate to the Emory
Plan to give life.
