• In this instance what they offer the employer is evidence of the range of
competencies which have been developed through their academic study,
rather than the specific subject content of their degree.
• Given the current economic climate and the increased competition for
graduate positions, it is important to consider a range of occupational areas.
Bear in mind that many careers require further study, training and/or work
experience beyond your degree.

become fully integrated into many jobs, in much the same way as health and
safety and equal opportunities have already been.

qualifications and practical experience is usually essential.There may be roles
in administration, advocacy, fundraising, research or relief work.

What is an environmental manager?
• An environmental manager is an experienced professional who uses their
knowledge of sustainability methods, environmental policies, safety
guidelines and occupational health to provide environmental solutions to
businesses and construction firms.They also focus on applying scientific
efforts to conserve land's overall qualities, including parks, forests, mountain
ranges and other locations of natural splendor.

What does an environmental manager do?
• Environmental consultants may perform a variety of tasks to ensure
businesses maintain sustainable practices. Here are some day-to-day
responsibilities of environmental managers:
• Meet their clients and determine their needs
• Oversee daily activities of team members to maintain environment system (EMS)
• Respond to concerns and inquiries related to EMS
• Perform environmental regulation audits to monitor contamination, emissions and damages
• Educate industrial workers on environmental policies and programs
• Maintains permits and generates environmental reports as per state regulations

Early Career Dilemmas and Plateau
• Many scholars on organizational careers’ have suggested that plateau is fast
becoming a critical managerial and organizational issue which needs to be
managed properly to avoid employee’s discontent.
• Career plateau is defined as the point where employees like hood of additional
hierarchical promotion is very low.
• Employees who have experienced career plateau would think that their
employers have forsaken their careers.
• Career plateau has been used as antecedent to many undesirable work
outcomes such as low satisfaction, high stress, poor per formance and other
withdrawal symptoms

Early Career Dilemmas and Plateau
• The main cause of career plateau in organizations is due to business re-
engineering, downsizing and spin-off-activities which make further
advancement within organization becomes more unlikely and employees
have to face the fact that they have to serve in the same position longer than
expected.
• Similarly, career plateau is also caused by many antecedent conditions
including inappropriate abilities and skills, low need for career mobility and
slow company growth.
• Career plateau has been caused by other factors like baby- boomers who are
holding positions of responsibility longer, mergers and takeovers causing
layoffs, resulting in fewer available positions but competitive.

Effects and strategies of managing career plateau
• The effects of career plateau is felt a cross organization and cross employees.
In the short run career plateau may help individual’s employee to concentrate
on individual’s growth, catch up with professional and skills developmental
plans. In addition, the affected employees will have time to reflect on their
future pursuit, master work skills and gather psychic energy in preparation for
another transition period.
• Some plateaued employees maintain the same level of productivity, do not
appear bored and ha.ve high satisfaction with jobs.
• Employees who take career plateau as a shock to their performance will be
directly affected because these employees believe that upward or lateral
movement is used as a yardstick to measure their performance, but in the
absence of this, they would be demotivated.

Effects and strategies of managing career plateau
• These would affect the organizational performance and may lead to a high
degree of labour turnover. Stability of tenure in employment and upward
movement enhances commitment and reduces labour turnover in
organization.
• In addition, it enhances networking which involves building networks inside
and outside the organization and obtaining useful information on career
paths.
• Lastly an employee who develops career strategies appropriate to his
occupation and organization is likely to increase his probability for obtaining
positive evaluations from superiors and a large share of organization salary
