Missionary means – one who was sent on a mission.
Missionary (Latin) is equal word to Apollos (Greek)
Their impact on world:
Reached Bible to counties in other continents.
Translated Bible into many other languages.
Expressed love of God to the lost (i.e. Missionary
schools, hospitals and homes).
Become martyrs for the kingdom of God.

1. Graham Stains
(1941 – 23 January 1999)
was an Australian came to
Odissa as medical
missionary to poor and
leprosy.
23rd Jan 999 he along with
his two sons Philip (aged 10)
and Timothy (aged 6), was
burnt.
In 2005 Gladys Stains was
awarded the fourth highest
civilian honor in India,
Padma Shree.
7. 2. William Carey (father of modern missions)
William Carey (1761 ) a British missionary,
spent 41 yrs in India and died in 1834.
Carey, his eldest son Felix, Thomas and his
wife and daughter sailed from London
aboard an English ship in April 1793 and
arrived Calcutta on 11 Nov.
1796, 5-year-old son Peter dies on 11
October.
He translated the Bible into Bengali, Oriya,
Assamese, Arabic, Hindi and Sanskrit.
1826 Government gave Carey "Grant in
Aid" for education.
1829 Sati prohibited with efforts of Raja
Rammohan Roy.

(December 9, 1870 – May
23, 1960) was a American
medical missionary to India.
In 1945, the college was
opened. In 2003 the Vellore
Christian Medical Center
was the largest Christian
hospital in the world, with
2000 beds.

12, 2000.
