Despitethe fact they all movedon to different
careers,the three self-proclaimed"wine and
giggfequeens"managedto stay in touch.
Everattwent on to becomea writer for The
Globeand Mail and authoredthe book, Emails
From TheEdge.Smethurstis now a financial
consultantand Mangoltmovedto South
Carolina,wheresheworksas a wellnesscoach
and fitnessinstructor.
"We would meet onceor twice a year in WestVirginiabecausethat seemedto be the halfwaypoint between
us," saysEveratt."But we went other places,too. NewYork,Vegas..."
The three co-authorshave dreamedup 101 "girlfriendactivities"that fall underfour particularcategories:Mind,
Body, Soul and Funny Bone.
Someof the activitiesare party-likegameswhile othersare more soul-wrenching,like GirlfriendQ&Athat
promptsyou to ask your girlfriendsanything.
"Theseare experiencesdisguisedas a book,"saysEveratt."(They're)activitiesgirlfriendswill actuallydo,
adaptedfrom what we have readabout personalgrowth and havingfun, from the top of your headto the tips of
your toes."
The book, whichtook three yearsto write, requiredplentyof "research."Everatt,a tall, willowy blondwith a
radiantsmile,saysone of her favouriteactivitieswas Burlesque101, where friendsadopt racy names(she was
Mimi Marmalade)and presenta floor show.
Her other favouriteactivity was Philanthropia,whichencourageswomen to give backto the community.
"We volunteeredfor Habitfor Humanity,"saysEveratt."We learneda lot about eachother and it was an
amazingexperience."
The authorsare donatinga portionof the proceedsfrom salesof the bookto Interim Place,a shelterfor abused
women in Mississauga.
Everattsaysthe book is intendedto give women a few laughsand to inspirethem to try new things.
"Doing the activitiescan't help but changeyour life," said Everatt."You will discoveryou have talentsyou never
knewyou had."
Everattdiscoveredshe lovesto make peoplelaugh.
"I'm now doing standupcomedyand taking a courseat SecondCity," she says, "We have to do a five-minute
act at a real club."
Drink Wineand Giggleis publishedby The Fig& The Vine Publishingin SouthCarolina.It's currentlyavailableat
most booksellers.
"And out of my trunk for $20," Everattsaid with a laugh.
