You will have no doubt read or heard about the recently published report that was
commissioned by Thomas Cook in the wake of the Corfu tragedy.
This report makes a number of recommendations which will impact across the travel industry.
The report calls for changes and improvements to be made to the current level of safety
checks, training, resources and safety information that is provided to customers.
Important points to note:
 Improve customer information. Make it clear to customers the extent of auditing that
has been performed on each hotel and package.
 Provide the customer with advice and the associated risks that are specific to the
customers chosen destination.
 Undertake a complete review of the supplier audit paperwork and the skills and
knowledge that are required to complete the documentation.
 Review the processes used for capturing Health and Safety issues that require action to
remedy the problem that has been identified.
Clearly, the recommendations are far reaching and will take time to digest, review and implement across the industry
and within your organisation.
