Living only ten minutes north of Mexico, I have been exposed to the reality of living in a predominantly Mexican area with cultures from both sides of the border expressed. Growing up in a diverse community, I have come across students who struggled to understand English to those who aspired for the Ivy Leagues. Due to my mother’s Mexican descent, being surrounded by Mexican culture, but growing up in the United States I understand respectfully coping with different cultures and their values. Being able to accept is a crucial and fundamental role in diversity. In order to be diverse, I have learned one must be willing to accept others views, opinions, and beliefs even if an individual does not always agree with them. My attendance to the university would not only increase student body of Mexican Americans, but also add to the student population that is passionate, familiar, and seek for change and diversity.
