focus and put your heart into one thing. It takes courage and dedication. Most of all it takes
belief that its possible for you to reach your dreams.
STEP 1 – Put your dreams on paper.
Now, Tom did not share the research behind this,
but studies have shown that writing down your
goals increases your chances of achieving them.
Before getting to writing your goals, so you do
not end up putting on paper what you’ve been
told you should want. You need to do a dream
building exercise.
One of Tom’s major life lessons was nullifying
the belief that if you do not real goals you fail. He
used to practice setting goals which he knew he
could hit, but I think you know.

Mediocrity always sets goals it can achieve;
excellence stretches itself. I have committed to
stretch for excellence each day rather than

Your Life Lessons Have Brought You to This Point
This is one of the most important things that you will do over the next 30 days.
Don’t give into mediocrity–Take Action Today.
STEP 2 – Get a journal that represents you.
Consider your journal your traveling companion in which whom you will share your hopes,
dreams, strategies. It makes for a world of wisdom after the years have passed.
STEP 3 – Use your imagination to write out exactly what you want.
Open up the journal and start dreaming. Start writing for 30 minutes about what you want and
what you deserve for the future for 30 minutes, and don’t stop.
STEP 4 – Sort out which ones are most important to you.
Put A, B, C next to them.
A= really important
B= want but not necessary
C= would be nice, but I don’t have to have it
TIP: Make sure that you write out your dreams based on what you want not what you think is
possible.
Take all the goals you have marked with an A goal and mark them with a 1, 2, 3. (The goals with
a one next to them are the ones that create an emotional response in your of blazing desire to
see them happen.)
STEP 5 – The Final Step – You now have the right goals for yourself.
Take all of the ‘A’s with ones beside them and chose a top three. And, write out each goal on a
separate piece of paper detailing what having that goal would mean to you. (Again, don’t worry
about if you think it can be accomplished or not.) Write down the ones that you really, really
want.
Put a date on each goal.
Because urgency creates action.
And action will help you get to your goals.

TIP: Successful people take action immediately.

3. Vladimir Salnikov – The Heart of a Champion
I was mesmerized as John Naber told the story of fellow athlete and gold medalist Vladimir
Salnikov. This man broke won gold twice in the Olymipics and was the first to break the 15
minute mark in the 500-meter freestyle.
Naber defines a dream as a desire to experience an emotional response. We chase that feeling,
and when that feeling comes true then we say our dream came true.
It was not enough for Vladimir to have the world record. It was not enough for him to win gold
during the year that the USA had boycotted the Olympics (in the Soviet Union). He trained for
12 years as an Olympic swimmer for the chance to compete.
The leaders of the country told him he was too old and washed up at 27 years old even though
he had made the team in 1988.
He raced anyway. Based on the primaries, Germany was the sure win. But, he had something
that cannot be bought. He had believe that could not be shaken, and he had the heart of a
champion. He wanted his gold, and his gold was to race against the best and win.
And, win he did. His eternal shining moment, however, was not on the podium but when he was
acknowledged with a standing ovation from athletes across the globe in the late that night post
race.
…10AM the next morning; he retired from swimming.
