2. As founder and president of Oregon-based
Gotshalk Enterprises, Leonard Gotshalk oversees
the consulting and financial firm’s daily
operations. He began the firm in 1974 while
playing as an offensive lineman for the NFL’s
Atlanta Falcons. Active in giving back to the
community, Leonard Gotshalk is a former
member of Rotary International, an organization
dedicated to bringing together professional and
business leaders. The organization is made up of
more than 1.2 million members in more than
34,000 clubs worldwide.
3. In May 2014, Rotary International and the
Peace Corps announced a joint collaboration
to promote global development and
volunteerism; due to their heavy reliance on
volunteers, both groups are continually
seeking to reach a larger audience. They
believe that together they can build stronger
communities and address specific areas of
concern, including poverty, lack of sanitary
water, and illiteracy.
4. With this initiative, the two organizations aimed
to bring awareness specifically to Thailand, Togo,
and the Philippines. Volunteers in these areas
share their experiences through presentations
held at Rotary clubs across the country.
Combined, the Peace Corps and Rotary
International overlap in more than 60 countries,
and according to the latter group, many former
Peace Corps volunteers join Rotary once they
complete their tenures. Over the years, the two
organizations have worked together to benefit
many worthy causes, including libraries and
sanitation and health projects.
