3. 1) What Is Climate Change?
Climate change refer to changes in
the Earth’s climates, at local, regional,
or global scales, and can also refer to
the effects of these changes.
In recent decades, the term ‘climate
change’ is most often used to describe
changes in the Earth’s climate driven
primarily by human activity,
particularly the burning of fossil fuels
and removal of forests, resulting in a
relatively rapid increase in carbon
dioxide concentration in the Earth’s
atmosphere.

4. 2) Major Causes Of Climate Change
There are lots of factors that
contribute to Earth’s climate.
However, scientists agree that Earth
has been getting warmer in the past
50 to 100 years due to human
activities.
• Certain gases in Earth’s atmosphere block heat from escaping. This is called the greenhouse
effect. These gases keep Earth warm like the glass in a greenhouse keeps plants warm.
• Human activities — such as burning fuel to power factories, cars and buses — are changing the
natural greenhouse. These changes cause the atmosphere to trap more heat than it used to,
leading to a warmer Earth.
The Greenhouse Effect
5. 3) Effects Of Climate Change
• Hotter temperatures
• More severe storms
• Increased drought
• A warming, rising ocean
• Loss of species
• Not enough food
• More health risks
• Poverty and displacement
6. 4) Global Warming
Global warming is a gradual increase in the earth’s temperature generally due to the greenhouse effect
caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants.
Use of Vehicles
Fuels which emit a large amount of
carbon dioxide and other toxins into
the atmosphere
Agriculture
Various farming activities produce
carbon dioxide and methane gas.
These add to the greenhouse gases in
the atmosphere and increase the
temperature of the earth.
Deforestation
Forests are being depleted for many
domestic and commercial purposes.
This has led to an environmental
imbalance.
Overpopulation
An increase in population means more
people breathing. This leads to an
increase in the level of carbon dioxide,
the primary gas causing global
warming, in the atmosphere.
7. 5) When you fly, how much you impact
environment?
What happens when you fly?
You add upto 700-2800kg CO2/flight
But until we invent teleportation,
flying is the only fastest way to
travel long-distances to see
family and do business stuff
How you can reduce your carbon footprint when you fly?
Travel Light
Every item on a plane makes it heavier usually the heavier the
plane the more fuel is needed so when you're packing think about
whether you really need to take all that stuff.
Fly Direct
Planes use the most fuel when they're taking off and when they’re
landing if you can fly direct to where you're heading your carbon
footprint will be smaller than if you go via.
Sit in the cheapest Seats
Study by the World Bank shows that if you fly in business or first
class your emissions are at least three times more than if you
decided to fly in economy, here the seats are smaller and it means
that more people can be flown about by the same amount of fuel
Choose Your Airline Carefully
some airlines produce more carbon emissions than others worth
bearing in mind when you book your flight
A carbon footprint is the total amount of
greenhouse gases (including carbon
dioxide and methane) that are
generated by our actions.
8. 6) Alternative Energy Sources And What We
Can Do
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Do your part to reduce waste by choosing reusable
products instead of disposables.
Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning
Setting your thermostat just 2 degrees lower in winter
and higher in summer could save about 2,000
pounds of carbon dioxide each year.
Change a Light Bulb
LEDs use 20 percent - 25 percent of the energy and
last up to 25 times longer than the traditional
incandescent bulbs
Plant a Tree
Trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and
give off oxygen.
Drive Less and Drive Smart
Less driving means fewer emissions. Besides
saving gasoline, walking and biking are
practical forms of exercise.
Buy Energy-Efficient Products
Buy product which consume less electricity
and power.
Encourage Others to Conserve
Share information about recycling and
energy conservation with your friends,
neighbors, and co-workers, and take
opportunities to encourage public
