Brian Sacks: Entrepreneur, Sports Expert & Founder
1. BRIAN SACKS
Entrepreneur | Fantasy Sports Expert | Handicapper | Sports Junkie
In a business known for either athletes or reporters, Brian Sacks is an
anomaly. Founder of Jump Athletic, a youth basketball training
academy and competitive club; a former CEO and co-founder of two
magazine publishing businesses; founder of Prophetable Picks, a
handicapping start-up; and co-host of Sports Junkies, a local sports
radio show; as well as In the Huddle, a fantasy football show on the
former ESPN 860 affiliate in Arizona, Sacks, 42, interplays
entrepreneurship, content publishing and his love of sports into the
perfect combination of sports-meets-business success.
Passion for Basketball
His love of basketball led Brian Sacks to launch his most recent
venture four years ago: Jump Athletic, a youth sports-focused
organization whose mission is to develop the top high school
basketball breeding ground for talent. Sacks is taking Arizona’s youth basketball program to
the next level by providing local boys and girls the definitive place to further develop their
skills, working with top trainers and coaches in the state. With 20 competitive basketball
teams ranging from 3rd grade through high school, ranking nationally, Jump Athletic is the
premier program in the southwest.
Content Publishing
Throughout his career, Sacks has been challenged, and succeeded, at creating something
out of nothing. In 2006 he launched bizSanDiego, a multi-platform media company, whose
flagship product was a monthly magazine. BizSanDiego rose from a community unknown to
a well-respected brand rivaling some of the longest standing media companies in the San
Diego market. Prior to bizSanDiego, Sacks was CEO of bizAZ, the media company he
founded in late 1997, growing it into one of the top business magazines and event brands in
Arizona. Sacks sold bizAZ to Gannett, Inc. in early 2005.
Sports Fanatic at an Early Age
A love of sports started early for Sacks. He started playing competitive soccer at the age of
8 in NY traveling across the US in competitive tournaments on what was one
of the top teams in the country and went on to play several high school sports.
Sports-bred passion and discipline stayed with Sacks all his life.
Football Analysis: Taking to the Radio Airwaves
Sacks took his passion for sports and applied it to the airwaves. In 2006 he,
along with sports radio personality Andy Dorf, launched the Sports Junkies
brand, a weekly radio show on the local Arizona ESPN 860 affiliate. Sacks
also had a fantasy football show called In the Huddle as well as made several
guest appearances as “The Prophet” on the Roc & Wolf Show on ESPN 860
providing analysis and selections on college and pro-football games. He
gained a strong following due to his ability to deliver consistent winners and indepth analysis.
