2. FADE IN:
EXT. THE DUMPS - EVENING
An old GARBAGE MAN is walking around and pouring gasoline on
a giant mound of old, decrepit tires.
At the very bottom of the mound, trapped underneath all of
the other tires, sits a TIRE that seems a little out of
place; a little smaller and a little less worn than the
others.
The gasoline splashes the little tire, and, as if being woken
up by the splash, the tire begins struggling to get out from
the bottom.
The garbage man pulls out a book of matches, takes one match,
strikes it, and then lights the book on fire. The garbage man
tosses the flaming book of matches at the mound and the tires
immediately catch fire.
The fire moves from the top of the mound in a circular
motion, making its way to the bottom of the mound.
Meanwhile the little tire is still struggling to escape.
The fire races closer and closer to the tire but at the last
second the tire manages to wiggle free and begins rolling
away from the mound.
The garbage man looks on, dumbfounded, as the tire rolls to
freedom.
EXT. BRIDGE - NIGHT
The tire, still sporting a dose of gasoline, rolls slowly
along the side of a small bridge that hovers over a lake.
It is a quiet night, only a few cars pass. The sky is filled
with bright stars, and the water below is calm.
The tire motions downwards, as if "looking" down and "sees"
its reflection in the water.
The tire then motions upwards and "looks" at the starry night
sky.
The tire motions, as if taking a heavy sigh, and then carries
on across the bridge.
3. 2.
EXT. FREEWAY - MORNING
The tire leisurely rolls along the freeway until it spots a
broken-down car on the side of the road.
The tire rolls along the sides of the car, as if inspecting
it. There are only three wheels still on the car, but all
three are popped. There is no wheel on the front left side of
the car.
The tire rolls into this vacant spot and appears to try and
move the car forward, but to no avail. The car is too heavy
for this little tire.
Defeated, the little tire carries on.
EXT. FREEWAY - AFTERNOON
The tire rolls along the freeway when a car in the fast lane
brakes suddenly, causing the car to skid. The car speeds off,
but tire tracks are left along with a bit of smoke rising
from the ground. This makes the tire stop in place.
The tire begins rolling very fast and then stopping quickly.
It, too, makes skid marks on the road. After "seeing" the
skid marks it has created, the tire begins bouncing up and
down, as if excited by what it has discovered it can now do.
The tire continues to make skid marks, but on the last
attempt, truly burns rubber and, mixed with the gasoline that
is still on it, catches fire.
The tire races towards an exit ramp, rolls down a huge,
grassy hill, and is propelled into a lake by the lip of the
hill. The tire then quickly sinks to the bottom of the lake.
EXT. BOTTOM OF THE LAKE - MORNING
The tire appears to have been at the bottom of the lake for
some time. It now has a patch of moss growing on one side of
it.
Suddenly, the tire begins elevating towards the surface. The
tire, possibly "scared" or "confused" motions towards the
bottom of the lake but, as if being in the grasp of some kind
of tractor beam, heads to the surface. On its way up to the
surface, several fish swim out of the tire.
4. 3.
EXT. BOAT - MORNING
It is revealed that the tire had been hooked by a MAN'S
fishing line. The man pulls the tire up and takes a good,
hard look at it.
EXT. MAN'S BACKYARD - DAY
The man takes a cloth and wipes the tire clean. The moss is
completely gone now, and the tire looks almost brand new,
save for its melted spot where it caught fire. The man ties a
thick rope around the tire.
Two young CHILDREN come out and begin climbing on the tire,
swinging and laughing. It is revealed that the tire is now a
swing.
FADE OUT.
