THROUGH HER RETAIL SHOP DACHA,
interior designer Lauren Alexander brings her fresh perspective on
California-chic style to the South Bay. A native Californian, Alexander
expresses her laid-back vibe via an innately luxurious bohemian style.
Now she locally pioneers her eclectic touch through a modern-meets
earthy fashion that blends tribal, vintage and a splash of glam.

Embracing design culture from a young age, Alexander followed
in the footsteps of her mom, a floral designer, and found herself
working in the same field: high-end event planning in New York City.
She then ran the home department for Bergdorf Goodman, where
she gained a vast knowledge of the affluent consumer, as well as an
intense education in branding and packaging that is now evident
in her business practices. Later, influenced by her stint with iconic
designer Kelly Wearstler, Alexander quickly learned that the key to
impeccable interior design is that everything, even the tiniest detail,
matters—a notion that the tastemaker also applies to her interior
design business, run through Dacha.
Perusing the perfectly curated store one senses Alexander’s
refreshing design sensibility buttoned up with cultured opulence.
Dacha’s neutral color palette has great depth, with a vast selection
of textures and layering pieces. Offerings include such luxury
brands as Pehuen, an upscale pillow company of very fine quality
stocked in nubby wools with organic designs. Alexander pairs these
with vintage mud cloth pillows for an eclectic mix of high and low, a
design idea that she both enjoys and believes in.
Furthermore, Dacha encompasses a variety of wonderful
must-haves: French Cire Trudon candles, Roost furniture, Mexchic
textiles, vintage artwork, accessories and furniture all make for
unique surprises that pique interest. “About half of what I carry in
the store is vintage, which I source from all over the world; Asian
screens, African drums, plus wonderful mid-century modern
pieces,” Alexander explains. “I love items to have a bit of history and
mixing that into a space.”
Additionally, Alexander believes in a simple philosophy that
every room should have something green. “Bringing a green
plant into each room brings the space to life and can really
make it pop,” she elaborates. “At Dacha, we offer floral design
that is low-maintenance and requires very little watering.”
As floral design has influenced Alexander’s life from childhood, she
adds, “Travel has always been a part of my lifestyle, and growing
up with a floral designer mom, we were always gathering pine
cones and seashells, antiques and beautiful objects everywhere we
traveled. It was part of life to always take note of beautiful things.”
Resulting from her belief that clients should enjoy a comfortable
living environment without sacrificing style and luxury, Dacha
offers a variety of services at the swanky downtown boutique:
retail, full-service interior design, floral design, event planning and
holiday decorating.
The Dacha lifestyle truly is a retreat from urban life—but ideally
located in the heart of Manhattan Beach.
