1. December and January in the employment calendar is a highly contrasting period. You have the buzz and excitement of the work
Christmas party followed by the collective slowdown, all in time for the January detox. For many industries this is true but for the
recruitment industry December and January should be viewed as the Superbowl of American football, the World Cup final of football
or the season finale of X-Factor; this is our time to shine.
Therefor I have listed 8 reasons why December and January are the two biggest months in the recruitment calendar and why we
should be making the most of them.

New Year’s Resolution: At this time of year people begin to evaluate the previous year and assess what has
been achieved, what has not and what it is they would like to change. A top resolution for many people is to
find a new job or get a promotion. Even if a person’s resolution is not to specify find a new role, this is the one
element that dictates the most over a person’s lifestyle. It is a key influencer in your income, location and
social making January the key time when candidates are looking for work.
Christmas Spend: The Christmas parties, the meals, gifts and all the unexpected festive cheer can take its toll
in the finance department; this is the time when people look at ways to increase their income. And what
better way in doing this by looking at either getting a promotion or finding a similar role elsewhere but for a
higher salary.
Digital Channels: Going digital and mobile has transformed the way in which the world operates. It has
made a global and industrialized economy with the ability to commute in various locations at any time. These
technologic have also transformed the recruitment industry. From July 2013 to October 2014 61,058 visits
were made to the Randstad CPE website via a mobile device, from July 2014 to October 2014 this rose to
80,911 and for 2015 this figure will further increase; these figures were helped by the introduction of the
Randstad purpose built mobile website. So while candidates enjoy their extended period of leave and while in
between playing candy crash candidates have the ability to search, apply and up load a CV quicker than Steve
Brookstein singing career.
Downtime: December and January is a period where many projects come to a halt, allowing candidates an
opportunity to reflect on the previous 12 months. This period also creates an unofficial flexible working time
frame when candidates can find it easier to find a few moments to take a call about a purposed role or free up
afternoon for an interview all without raising suspicion from management.
Downtime Recruitment: The downtime in point four is also true for the recruitment industry. Think about the
competition, how many recruitment consultants from other companies have taken leave, began the Christ-
mas slow down leaving a recruitment void to fill. There is a wealth of opportunity waiting just for you.
Headcount: After endless calculations, meetings, budget proposal, re-budget proposal and even the re-re-
budget proposal, the new year for companies will bring with it a new and improved budget; included in this
new and improved budget may see an increase in headcount. In building your candidate database through-
out December and January by using the many different means of
candidate attraction methods available, when these roles become vacate you will be ready placed to fill these
roles
Holiday Season: While many people in December are getting ready for the Christmas period, there are many
where this is just a regular working month. Think about the times you work over important holidays such as
Diwali, Ramadan, Chinese News Year and Passover.
Location: Many people see the New Year as a time for new beginning and change, and as we have mentioned
previously this includes a Job; but for others this is not enough. For some a move in location is also warranted.
This is a huge decision which takes a lot of research and planning, house, school, travel are all important
factors but none such much as work .
