1Use natural light. Try to photograph dishes during the day and position them near a
window or open area. Never use flash.
3Keep it simple. Keep the area clutter free! Simple and clean is best to make sure the
focus is on the product.
2Start fresh. Avoid half-eaten food or empty plates. Always photograph the full and
finished product.

2. 4Get close. Don’t hesitate to get a close shot to highlight details, but not too close that the
product is unrecognizable.
5Mix up your angles. A birds-eye view can offer a unique perspective and highlight
multiple dishes at once. This angle is especially good for groups of dishes or dishes with
pairings. Be sure to bunch dishes closely to eliminate empty space.
6Focus. Make sure the product is always in focus. We want the viewer to immediately
notice the food, not superfluous background noise.
