The 2014 election cycle here in Vermont was a wake up call to the present Gov. of Vermont Peter Shumlin who clearly had the advantage of over $1+ Million in his campaign coffers. Scott Milne started late mostly due to some inner turmoil among some of his early team members, the VT GOP and an old guard in the Vermont GOP that fears youth, fears innovation, fears technology and has been out worked by the Super Majority Dem/Progressive parties here in Vermont. Vermont has a very unique political diversity which describes its unique independence and its unique constitution which gave us an opportunity to bring back some history which defines Vermont. Senator Patrick Leahy has been a life long politician and now a senior leader in the Dem Party, Senator Bernie Sanders is an Independent yet he votes with the Dem party close to 90% of the time. Our congressman Peter Welch is Dem and much of this shift from a traditionally Republican State in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Gov. Richard Snelling was a great Governor who lead Vermont by building as diverse business environment here in Vermont, the defense industry had several representatives in Vermont, IBM was a huge player, the 80's was a huge shift from business to a more environmentally and educational State. Vermonters are some of the most hardy people you will ever meet, a State known for its long farming tradition, Maple Syrup and its formally almost untouched economy. Vermont used to weather economic trends, it has a diverse tax base that people could build a dream, raise a family and thrive. However, that shift changed dramatically after Gov. Richard Snellings death. We are one of the smallest states in the union, we are now sitting #7 as the most taxed states in the country while being among the WORST STATES in the country for business growth. This election post a financial collapse, storm Irene and many changes in our economic landscape has left Vermont and Vermonters taxed to the max! The new Affordable Care Act adding even more pressure and tax complexity that has awoken every land owner with in the State. The only way in our present leadership is to raise more taxes, companies are leaving the State, the tax base lost $4 Billion in property values, 37 school proposed budgets rejected and it has turned into a call for TAX REFORM AND TAX RELIEF! The Single Payer debate finally bringing out the $2 Billion dollar price tag on a already OVER BURDEN SHRINKING TAX BASE!! The next election cycle Vermont and Vermonters need to restore balance to Vermont! Vermont needs to create business, actually create jobs and regrow a diverse tax base to get out of the $100 Million shortfall for fiscal 2015, the loss of $100+ Million to a Vermont Health Connect that is still not connecting and yet another 2% Property tax rate increase!! In 2016 Vermont and Vermonters need to restore balance to VERMONT!
