The opportunity to teach and inspire people is an exciting prospect that I feel qualified for and
fully able to undertake. Please allow me to explain briefly my philosophy regarding academic
leadership and how I could contribute to the growth and success of your institution. I believe
with consistency, communication and engaging instruction anything is possible for a student. I
am currently the high school math instructor at City Neighbors High School a public charter
school in Baltimore city. I worked with at risk youth and this in transition at The Children Guild
Brooklyn Campus, where I taught Algebra I, II Geometry and Statistics. Previously I taught at
The Forbush School at Glyndon where I was utilized as a self-contained Special Education
Teacher. I planned and taught the following classes while there, Algebra I, Geometry, English II
and III, Career Strategies, Health, Biology, U.S History and American Government. One of my
greatest achievements was helping to raise H.S.A. test scores among the students I taught.
I instructed at New Hope Academy in the AES program, where I instructed middle and high
school students. New Hope is a Level 5 Special Education School. I have also worked with the
AmeriCorps program as an Assistant Teacher to 8th Grade Middle School youth most of whom
were repeaters or on a Baltimore City Promotion Contract, and most recently at a GED Center
YO! Baltimore, which is a city, funded GED/ Job Placement program as administrative staff.
The students I have taught have a variety of learning disabilities Autism, ADHD, Asperger
syndrome, dyslexia and cognitive delays. I have the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the
needs of those students by accommodating and modifying work. I also have been certified to
administer the Woodcock Johnson IV, KTEA Brief and Comprehensive, assessments.
I am a graduate of Coppin State University obtaining my Master of Education in Special
Education and Morgan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. I have
also been accepted into Notre Dame of Maryland’s Ph.D in Changing Educational
Environments. My work particularly in graduate school was exemplary as evidence by my
induction to Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education. I have also written and co-
published Pieces of a Puzzle a children’s book that covers the life of kids on the autism
spectrum. I am certain an interview would fully reveal my abilities and enthusiasm for the
opportunity to contribute to your faculty. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any
questions. My résumé is enclosed to provide you with additional details concerning my
background and qualifications.
Thank You,
Howard C. Perkins III, M.Ed
