1. recognized early on in her surgical career
that programs that focused on the emotional
needs of the patient lagged far behind
advances in cancer research and medical
treatment. Today, while most cancer patients
are blessed with improved survival, it is still
an emotional blow that changes a person for
life. She and her husband, Michael Skinner, an
RN specializing in behavioral medicine, began
to dream. Their dream became a reality in 2001
with the founding of Hearts of Hope Breast
Cance r Found"a-ti on, a non-profit organization.
