An inside look at
CBL’s POP-UP program
THE POWER
OF THE
POP-UP
From global brands to local entrepreneurs
to online businesses, retailers of all shapes
and sizes are “popping up.”
The power of the pop-up.
Here are three reasons
retailers are opting for pop-ups.
Three reasons retailers are opting for pop-ups.

Experiment with
physical space1
Three reasons retailers are opting for pop-ups.

The top 100 digitally
native brands will open at
least 850 stores by 2023*
.
Pop-ups are a low-risk, high-reward
way to try physical retail.
Test the
market2
Three reasons retailers are opting for pop-ups.
Web traffic tells retailers where
they have market penetration
(and where they don’t).
Opening a physical store drives
up the share of web traffic within
that market by an average 27%.*

Opening a physical store
exposes the retailer to
new consumers, increases
web traffic and positively
influences brand
perception.*

At CBL Properties, we launched our first POP-UP Shop
in April 2017. Since then, we have expanded our pop-
up program to over 18 properties nationwide.

local businesses to launch POP-UPs, which
generated more than $600k in sales

Businesses in most markets have two
options: physical storefront or cart.

Rent includes marketing on the
mall’s website and social media, and a
move-in ready space.
Retailers enjoy flexible lease terms, with
in-line spaces available by the week and cart
space available by the week or weekend.

We like pop-ups
for three reasons.
Three reasons we like pop-ups.

We build lasting
relationships with
interesting businesses.

They are a great launchpad
for entrepreneurs in our
communities.
Pop-ups create an always-
fresh, ever-changing retail
experience for our guests.

“The POP-UP Shop allowed us to organically
test the market, and it’s been a major benefit for
our business. We’ve popped up at CoolSprings
Galleria, Hamilton Place and just recently
opened our third location at Parkway Place Mall.
Each experience has shown us that CBL really
cares about elevating our business goals.”

“I would encourage anyone to try it!
It’s a safe way to test the waters for your small

Tested a
pop-up location at
CoolSprings Galleria.
Converted to a two-year lease.
The new store opened
in May 2019.
Our portfolio of pop-ups.
“The POP-UP Shop at CoolSprings Galleria gave
us a great opportunity to test out a larger market,
with great traffic flow and very low risk. We saw our
typical sales triple in the mall versus our other local
location, ultimately helping us decide to move our
location into the mall long-term. Many of our clients
are excited to shop at and support a local small
business while visiting the other stores they love at
the mall! We were in Westhaven from July 2016 until
Dec 24, 2018 when we moved into the POP-UP!”
Their success is our success.
It’s an exciting time in our business, as
mall owners and retailers evolve and work
together to test concepts that resonate
with modern consumers.
