2. Mr Manoj Bhargava
Manoj Bhargava, born in 1952 in Lucknow, India is one of the world’s richest
billionaires with a net worth of over 4 billion dollars. This self-made billionaire
accumulated his wealth through starting many companies, most notably- “Five-
Hour Energy”. However unlike starstruck everyday people who make it big, Manoj
decided to use his wealth to benefit society. He has become an entrepreneur
philanthropist and uses his money to make change in the world. He is a social
entrepreneur in the field of health. His ventures into providing clean, potable water
to all have brought humanity very far. The solution to poor health, simply put, is
water. Our body is made up of 70 percent water, so it’s quite important that we
have clean water.
3. Contributions to society
The Hans Foundation is solely supported by the Rural India Charitable Trust, and
in five years it has given 300 crore rupee (approximately $48.1 million U.S.). In
November 2014, Bhargava committed 500 crore rupee(approximately $80.2
million)to develop villagers in uttarakhand india .In September 2012, Bhargava
joined The Giving Pledge. He has pledged 90% of his wealth to charity, with an
emphasis on a common sense approach to philanthropy. Instead of simply giving
money, Bhargava believes that personal involvement is necessary.
4. Why does he do this?
He does it to help the poor people and to solve the problem that everyone is facing
water.He does it to help the less fortunate not for money nor fame,he has never
tried to influence a piece of legislation nor has he asked for anything in return for
the donations.Mr manoj has said that he would use 90 percent of this wealth to
fund projects to help the poor.
5. How many people has he impacted?
The charities have funded medical research in the United States and in
India.Hospitals for the poor and education for disadvantaged women in rural
areas.He is starting a new project, “Billions in change” as his new slogan showing
that he has changed the lives of millions. He has helped a lot of villages without
clean water and dont even have energy.He also placed many new free hospitals
to help health care in the poor areas.
