‘Hip-Hop Evolution’ Official Website
General Overview
• ‘Hip-Hop Evolution’ is a Canada - produced docuseries
which is streamed on Netflix.
• There is evidently a higher production value than a typical
BBC Three documentaries, as it is very stylistically
opulent and includes many world-famous cameos such as
Eminem, Outkast and Drake.
• However, I think this will be a good website to analyse
because they are very clear in their branding and feature
many extras that cannot be found by consuming the
programme alone.
Front Pages
• As soon as you click on the website, there is a pop-
up style page that says to ‘find your rap origins’.
This is speaking directly to the audience, and
creates a story-like narrative that is more
interactive and engaging to a virtual audience.
• This is also a page with very minimal text in order
to establish the artistic style of the documentary
and website.
• The next page is full of drawings of the feature
artists. This once again establishes a clear
stylistic choice of hand-drawn images, which is
distinctive for promoting the documentary’s
brand.
• In my website, I could include a similar page in
which the small artists’ album art is featured,
and when clicked it could lead to various
interview / additional content (Easter Eggs).
Content Pages
Large repetition of title to establish the brand further -
presenting it as an iconic and prominent
documentary.
• ‘Original Recording’ page - would be very
good to include in my website. Gives a
sense of intimacy to the audience, as more
of the artists’ personal work is revealed.
Will also give more of an insight into the
workings of music production, therefore
increasing the intellectual content.
• Interviews allow for original, innovative
content (the thoughts of each individual are
explored).
