Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde es für die Königliche Zentralstelle für Gewerbe und Handel als Ausstellungsgebäude errichtet: Es zeigte vorbildliche Industrieprodukte aus dem In- und Ausland als Anregung für die heimische Wirtschaft.
