Grand prix of the year for 2012
1. Grand Prix of the year for 2012
Every year the grand car competition surprises the worldwide fans with their appearances in various
countries. Although the outcome of the 2012 F1 season sounds not a new one, the whole year can be
described as a blend of predictable and unforeseen happenings.
Formula One team principals voted Fernando Alonso, Ferrari driver as the driver of the year in spite of
Sebastian Vettel’s winning as the sport’s youngest triple world champion at the age of 25. Based on the
principal’s top 10 grand prix scoring, Alonso bagged the first place while Vettel the second place for
scores 269 and 198. Alonso lost the final battle in Brazil last month where Vettel leads Alonso by three
points.
Although the principal’s decision was kept secret, the decision remains unchanged where eight out of 12
voted Alonso as driver of the year. Alonso has the biggest winning margin for the last five years since the
top 10 awards were conducted.
Alonso has the biggest winning margins for the last five years where he won two titles with Renault in
2005 and 2006 respectively and was also voted as the best driver in 2010 when Vettel took the first
championship.
Hamilton who went from Mercedes to Mc Laren finished as third with 177 points and Kimi Raikkonen as
fourth with 176 points (Lotus) and Mc Laren’s Jenson Button garnered 104 points as fifth.
Winner Fernando Alonso did great performances to make him stay in the title despite the fact that his
machine was inferior to Red Bull. He did incredible driving skills in Malaysia early during the year when
his car was not that in great condition.
Runner up Sebastian Vettel like Alonso demonstrated spectacular driving even his car was not in that
perfect condition. He marked distinctive winnings from Singapore onwards. Vettel is the youngest triple
champion in the F1 history.
The climax in Sao Paulo was an exciting competition throughout the race following the remarkable
damage to Vettel’s car and non-stop rain problems. A great toss, the US Grand Prix the previous weeks
was a success on and off the trail with Hamilton pass on Vettel, a lasting memory in the history of
America.
