8th
February, 2017-St. George’s-
The Grenada Football Association continues to engage and strengthen ties with
Sister Isles Carriacou and Petite Martinique. In the latest activity aimed a
deepening the bond, President of the GFA Cheney Joseph handed over three (3)
boxes of size four (4) balls to President of the Carriacou Football League Duane
Williams.
The presentation took place on Friday 3rd February in Hillsborough. “Our efforts to
develop football include Carriacou and Petit Martinique. Some of the things we
wish to achieve are the employment of a dedicated coach based in Carriacou and
refereeing education.” said Joseph as he made the presentation.
He further stated, “We are determined to have for the first time, a team from
Carriacou invited to participate in our knock out competition and also have the
Carriacou Football League represented at executive committee meetings in order to
ensure they benefit from our development plans.”
In accepting the equipment, Williams said, “We will be working along with Shane
Thomas who is the grassroots coach on the island to ensure that children are
adequately equipped with enough balls for their training programmes.” Williams
was also optimistic following his discussions with the GFA President in
Hillsborough. He said, “The future looks positive. If all that we have discussed
becomes a reality then I see us moving along smoothly with the development of
football in Carriacou and Petite Martinique.”
The GFA has also invited two (2) representatives from Carriacou to participate in
the FIFA Women’s Coaching Course in March 2017 and three (3) representatives
for the FIFA Match Commissioners workshop on February 18th and 19th.
