This document provides information on upgrading walk-in cooler and freezer motors and fan blades to improve energy efficiency. It describes replacing standard shaded pole motors with electronically commutated motors (ECM) that use permanent magnet technology and electronic controls to maintain a constant speed. It also replaces aluminum fan blades with optimized carbon fiber blades that reduce load on the motor while delivering air more efficiently. The upgrades reduce energy consumption from 135 watts to 20 watts, saving over 1000 kWh per year and $110, resulting in a 85% reduction in wattage.
