THE COW
Cows are very useful to mankind, in supplying them with milk from which both butter and

Her age is told by her horns; after she is three years old a ring is formed every year at the
root of the horn, so that by counting the number of circles, her age may be exactly known.
Cows are sometimes prettily marked with black, brown, and yellow spots, and, as they lie
scattered about a green meadow, add much to the charms of a landscape.

SCORPIONS
This is one of the largest of the insect tribe. It is met with in different countries, and of
various sizes, from two or three inches to nearly a foot in length: it somewhat resembles a
lobster, and casts its skin, as the lobster does its shell.
Scorpions are common in hot countries: they are very bold and watchful: when any thing
approaches, they erect their tails, and stand ready to inflict the direful sting. In some parts
of Italy and France, they are among the greatest pests that plague mankind: they are very
numerous, and are most common in old houses, in dry or decayed walls, and among
furniture, insomuch that it is attended with, much danger to remove the same: their sting is
generally a very deadly poison, though not in all cases, owing to a difference of malignity of
different animals, or some other cause.
In the time of the children of Israel, scorpions were a plague in Egypt and Canaan, as
appears by the sacred writings.

This is an extraordinary, curious, and remarkably industrious little insect, to which

of these last, there are by far the greatest number: and as cold weather approaches,

a more careful inspection, every animal is found regularly employed. It is very
delightful, when the maple and other trees are in bloom, or the clover in the
meadows, to be abroad and hear their busy hum.

The Polar Bear
The Polar Bear is distinguished for his tremendous ferocity. They are very numerous in the
polar seas. There it is seen not only on land and fixed ice, but on floating ice several leagues
out at sea.
At sea, the food of this animal is fish, seals, and the carcases of whales; on land, it preys
upon deer and other animals, and will, like the Black Bear, eat many kinds of berries. In
winter, it beds itself deeply under the snow or eminences of ice, and awaits, in a torpid
state, the return of the sun.
The Black Bear lives in the woods of the United States, and is not as large as the Polar or
Brown Bear, but lives very much like the Polar bear.

THE OURANG OUTANG
The Ourang Outang is a species of the ape; it has long arms and hands, with very
long fingers. It is much larger than the ape, and some have been found about six feet
high, when standing erect.
It is capable of walking nearly erect; but the usual gait on the ground is like a
cripple who supports himself on his hands, and draws his body forward.
Its home, like the monkey family, seems to be on the trees. The hair is of a brownish
red color, and covers his back, arms, legs, and the outside of his hands and feet.
The face has no hair except whiskers on its side. He inhabits Malacca, Cochin
China, and particularly the island of Borneo.

THE SWINGING ROPE
Upright–3″ x 3″ x 6′-9″.
Top Piece–3″ x 3″ x 2′-9″.
Upright and top piece are mortised or halved and bolted together.
Bracing at top (3″ x 3″ x 20½” at long point of mitre cuts) is nailed to top piece and
upright at an angle of about 45 degrees.
Upright rests on a base measuring 3′-0″. This is mortised together and braced with
2″ x 3″ material about 20″ long, set at an angle of about 60 degrees.
Unless there are facilities for bracing at the top, as shown in the cut, the upright
should be made longer and buried about 3′ in the ground.
The swinging rope (¾” dia.) passes through a hole bored in the top piece and held in
place by a knot. Successive knots tied 8″ to 9″ apart and a big knot at the bottom
make swinging easier for little folks.

GEMINI (jem´-i-ni)—THE TWINS. (Face West.)
Location.—A line drawn from β to κ Ursæ Majoris and prolonged an equal distance
ends near Castor, in Gemini. Gemini is characterized by two nearly parallel rows of
stars.
The northern row if extended would reach Taurus, the southern one Orion. Note the
fine cluster 35 M. Herschel discovered Uranus in 1781 a short distance southwest of
it.
Two wonderful streams of little stars run parallel northwest on each side of the
cluster. Where the ecliptic crosses the solstitial colure is the spot where the sun
appears to be when it is farthest north of the equator, June 21st.
Castor is a fine double for a telescope, and Pollux has three little attendant stars. An
isoceles triangle is formed by Castor, Aldebaran in Taurus, and Capella in Auriga.
There is a record of an occultation in Gemini noted about the middle of the fourth
century b.c.
The Arabs saw in this group of stars two peacocks, the Egyptians two sprouting
plants, and the Hindus twin deities, while in the Buddhist zodiac they represented a
woman holding a golden cord. Since classic times, however, the figure has always
been that of human twins.
At the point indicated near θ a new star was discovered by Enebo in March, 1912. It
attained a maximum of about magnitude 3.5 and has at this writing waned to the
eleventh magnitude.

years old.
Celine Dion could not speak English because her parents were French. In 1989, she
started to learn english. In 1990, she had already recorded many English songs. She
became superstar soon after she performed a song for disney cartoon film, Beauty and
the Beast, in 1991.
Celine Dion married Rene Angelil in 1994. Three year after her marriage, she had
another hit song. It was a theme song to the spectacular movie, Titanic. The title of her
hit song was ‘My Heart Will Go On’.

The new plasma TV has a screen as the largest regular TV set, but it is only 15 cm
thick. It consists of hundreds of thousands of small cells that contain xenon and neon
gas.
The advantage of this plasma display technology is that you can produce ultra large
screens using super thin material. The image is also very clear because each pixel is lit
individually making the image look good from almost every angle.

My father created the wardrobe on behalf of me as my birthday present. On the left
aspect of the table, there’s a shelf wherever I place all of my favorite books. On the
table, there’s a lamp, laptop, stationery, and notebook. although my room is tiny and
straightforward, I notice it is terribly cozy.

neighbor’s dog. I love him very much because he can be my friend, too.

room. However, there is a bookshelf next to my study table.
I really like my bedroom. I spend a lot of time in my bedroom from studying, playing games,

My Teddy Bear
I have a favorite doll. It is an original Teddy Bear from America. Aunt Lily gave it to me last
year when she returned from her business trip in New York. I was very happy. I put it on a
cabinet next to my bed. Sometimes I use it as a pillow.
My Teddy Bear is very big, and the colour is brown. It is about 150 centimeters tall and the
width is about 50 centimeters. When I
put it on my bed it will occupy half of it. It is almost as big as my body. It is made of typical
kind of fabric called rasfur. The head is round with the size of 25 centimeters. It has two ears
which located on top of its head. The shape of the ear is half circle and the size is half of my
palm. The colour of its eye is dark brown. I think it is made of glass since I can see through it.
It has a light brown ribbon encircling its neck. On the sole of each foot, there is a paw pattern
made of smooth fabric.

My Favorite Acoustic Guitar
When I was in Junior High School, my mother bought me an acoustic guitar. It was my first
guitar. I learned some basic guitar chord with it. It accompanied me since I was a beginner
who know nothing about guitar, until I managed to improve my skill to a better level. Even
though I have another guitar right now, but this one is still my favorite. The sound produced
by it is still as clear as it was. its classic and simple design is just irreplaceable.
My favorite acoustic guitar is mainly made of mahogany wood. It is a steel-string type of
acoustic guitar. Three different colour were used to cover the major parts of the guitar. The
colour of the front side is peach with wooden fiber pattern which intentionally designed to be
clearly visible with our eye. The colour of the back side is black, and the colour of the edges
is dark brown. The neck of the guitar was painted in black, but the headstock is dark brown.
The tuning pegs or tuning keys are made of white plastic and is
attached to the headstock, three on the top side and three on the bottom side. There is a part
called "nut" placed between the neck and the headstock. It is made of white plastic too.
The fret of the guitar is mainly made of copper. There is only one sound hole on my guitar
and it is located at the end part of the neck. The bridge, where the end part of the strings were
attached, is made of wood and is painted in black.

My Favorite Shoes
I always fall in love with basketball shoes. It is not because I like to play basketball, I just
feel comfort and confidence with it. I finally got one from my father when we were in Solo
three years ago. At that moment, when I came to the store with my father, I try a couple of
shoes, and when I put this one on me, I knew it right away that this is my favorite
shoes.
The colour of my favorite shoes is black. There are two gray stripes on the outer side of the
shoes. The colour of the sole is white with some circular pattern painted in black on the
bottom of it. The surface of the sole is flat, which means this shoes has no heel. The shoes has
white shoelace and two straps binding the eyestay of the shoes. It makes the tongue of the
shoes always in steady position. The insole is made of foam rubber and the colour is red. It is
very soft and comfortable.

My favorite Blanket
I have a favorite blanket. I always wear every night to save my body so I can sleep
comfortably. I got this blanket from my friend when I had a birthday. He gave me the blanket
as a present on my birthday, I really liked the basic ingredients and the design of this blanket.
My favorite blanket is made from ‘Fleece. This material is mostly made with artificial wool
which has a very soft surface texture. The material is also dense, but not thick and not thin.
The material can avoid the cold of the night, so I keep warm. The color is pink and is a
picture of sunflowers above. The size is 150 x 200 cm. The edge of the blanket is above with
a blue cloth 5 cm in size.

My Favorite Drink
Has any one of you ever tried a boba milk tea? Well, that is my favorite drink. I love boba
milk tea of any flavor.
When my parents take me to a food court, I will order a boba milk tea. I like a boba milk tea
that comes with some ice. The drink is made from milk, tea, and added with some yummy
black tapioca pearls or called boba. It is very creamy and tastes sweet. The tapioca pearl is
chewy.
The drink is served in a tall glass or sometimes in a plastic cup. I use a big straw to suck the
milk tea and the boba. The ice makes my mouth feel very cold. I always finish my boba milk
tea. I love the sensation of sucking the boba from the bottom of the glass.
Who knows I may open a boba milk tea shop one day! I shall recommend my favorite boba
milk tea to my customer.

I have a favorite cellphone. I bought it last month using money from my work as a writer.
This cellphone is the second cellphone that I bought using my own money, I have waited for

My favorite cellphone is an Android based smartphone. the android version is 9.0 or known
as Android Pie. I rely on the cellphone for me because it is very helpful in my work, I can use
it to open Google, play games and also social media especially the workout is fairly good
with 16 MP resolution and also supported by large RAM, 4 GB and 64 GB ROM with 4300
Mah capacity battery, so I can operate the cellphone for a long time. The color of my favorite
cellphone is black.

circles, with four setting buttons around it, two on the right and two on the left. The part is

My Favorite Necklace
I was one of the women who liked to collect jewelry, especially necklaces, when I had the
opportunity to visit Singapore, I saw a necklace seller selling her display in front of her

I really like this necklace, the chain is made of copper and coated with silver. the length of
the chain is about 25 centimeters. There is no decoration around the chain, there is only a key

elegant and the necklace is very easy to blend with any color and style that I wear.

I can easily bite the melon with my teeth. The flesh of a ripe melon looks hard but actually it

The melon has many vitamins. The melon tree bears fruit from the months of May to
September. It needs a good care to grow well and produce sweet fruits. I am so lucky that I
can enjoy the melon by buying it from the nearby market.
I think I can say, “A melon a day keeps the doctor away.”

My Favorite Food
I like to eat many Indonesian foods. My favorite food is chicken satay.
My family and I often go to the food court center in our town. There we can find many food
stalls. My mom usually orders chicken satay for me. The chicken meats are tender and easy
to chew. The chicken satay is so tasty.
I usually enjoy the chicken satay with rice cake and peanut sauce. I like to dip my chicken
satay in peanut sauce because it makes the chicken satay taste richer. Sometimes when I want
to just snack, I only eat the chicken satay with peanut sauce. I bite the meat chunk one by
one.
I like to eat chicken satay because they do not have any bones. I also like the smell of the
roasted chicken meat and it looks so appetizing.
I wonder who first thought of this ingenious idea of the chicken satay. It is certainly a
wonderful idea! Is chicken satay your favorite type of food too?
