operate as a Gyro Therapist that can effectively diagnose the severity of motion sickness and
prescribe and administer the Motion Sickness Desensitisation Programme.
Course Outcomes
1. Implement and manage a physical activity programme for individuals affected by
motion sickness, when travelling by road, air, or sea.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of the therapeutic environment and the context in which
physical activity takes place.
3. Visual and vestibular components of motion sickness.
4. Coriolis Force; Effect of direction of head movement on motion sickness.
5. Adaptation of VOR (vestibulo-ocular reflex) to Coriolis Stimulation.
6. Somatosensory input as to how it relates to motion sickness.
7. Understanding how Sensory Conflict or Neural Mismatch Theory affects training.
8. Countering performance degradation due to Sopite Syndrome.
9. Demonstrate ability to discern between the levels and causes of motion sickness.
10. Settings and adjustments of equipment.
11. Prohibitive injuries, mental and health conditions of patients that hinders treatment.
12. Demonstrate knowledge of the causes and effects of motion sickness.
13. Conduct and interpret pre-participation screening (PAR-Q).

15. Effective treatment of 3 patients diagnosed with motion sickness.
16. Assess, evaluate and monitor motion sickness related components.
17. Physiological indicators of motion sickness.
18. Feedback and refer as it relates to physical activity.
19. Demonstrate exercise components pertaining desensitization of motion sickness.
20. Monitor progress of an individual on a self-paced motion sickness desensitisation
programme.
21. Biofeedback and use of HR monitor to measure anxiety and level of stress reduction.
22. Motivate and support participants in overcoming fear and anxiety.

Course Structure
The course provides a scientific balance between learning theory and learning through practical
experience and entails 72 hours of theoretical and practical training. The format of lessons
starts with a theory discussion followed by a practical session to enhance learning and memory
recall.
During the course therapists observe the treatment of people with motion sickness and are
expected to demonstrate their theoretical and practical knowledge on work done during the
previous day’s session before commencement of the next session.
During the course therapists have to treat 3 patients diagnosed with motion sickness under
supervision of the instructor as part of their internship.
Tests are written at the end of week one and two, with a final written and practical exam at the
end of the course.
Learning Resources
Course manual, study guide, data capture sheets, and portfolio of evidence (PoE).
