3. About
Bamboo poles outside HDB flats tend to get very
heavy when laden with clothes
When it is too heavy, it not only dangerous for
the user (falling accidents), it is also dangerous
for other residents (falling poles).
An invention that simplifies the process of
bringing the clothes in and out of the house by
minimizing weight.

4. Target Audience
Elderly with weak arms (main) when
alone, act of bringing poles out is dangerous
(causes falls)
People who do laundry in HDB flats
(maids, housewives)
5. Extent of the Problem
Due to doing
laundry, a maid lost
her life
6. Extent of the Problem
http://smj.sma.org.sg/5003/5003a6.pdf
“… Home injuries (67.9 percent) were the most
common, followed by road-related injuries (21.2 percent).
85.3 percent of the injuries were due to falls. 49.9 percent
of the patients were admitted to hospital.”
Gait/Weakness/Imbalance stands to be the highest %.
7. Our Design
Socket Pole
Special
detachable
hangers
attached to
Steel Wire
Window
8. How it works
What is
crimping?
*Wheel made bigger for illustration purposes
Clothes will be hung on hangers which are hung on crimp knots on the steel
wire. When the handle is turned, the wheels next to the pole would turn and
the hangers would move towards the window. The user would be able to
remove clothes one by one. The crimp knots would move in a circular motion.
9. Hanger Design
A carabiner will be used to
attach the hanger to the loop.

11. Why our Invention?
(How it beats the current solutions?)
More effective in minimizing weight
Our pole can remain outside(vs. bringing the
pole back in), meaning minimum weight, thus
reducing the stress on hands if elderly have to
bring the clothes in.
Safety
No need to bring the pole back in the house AND
as such it minimizes the risk of falling accidents
and poles dropping/falling.
12. Comparison- Ours vs
Others
Our Invention Retractable lever system
- Pole remains outside - Pole is still taken into the
- Individual clothes are taken flat
in - All the clothes are taken in
- Less weight elderly need to at once
bear when drying clothes - The pole laden with clothes
can be very heavy
13. Comparison- Ours vs
Others
Our Invention Conventional Method
- Pole remains outside - Pole is taken in and out of
- Individual clothes are taken the flat repeatedly
in - All the clothes are taken in
- Less weight elderly need to at once
bear when drying clothes - The pole laden with clothes
- Individual hangers require can be very heavy
less strength to counteract - Wind makes it even harder
effects of wind
15. Limitations
Unable to hang heavy blankets and bedsheets
Pole might get dirty when left outside
Wire may expand/contract slightly during
hot/cold weather
Slightly costly
How to put the hangers into the ringHow to install the ring onto the “string” How the ring go pass the round semi circle sides Why this product? news on people falling down dangers to going out of window why ours safer than already made product? we still have to go out, but why we safer?
