The peat found in Europe and Latvia began to form about
10,000 years ago and its process of formation is still
continuing. On the one hand, peat tells us the story of the fate
that has befallen marshes and similar territories over
hundreds and thousands of years; on the other hand, due to
the particular circumstances of its evolution, it has acquired
properties that in skillful hands can be put to the most diverse
range of uses.
3. The balance offered by peat tones together with the texture
that has infiltrated its layers over the thousands of years in
which the peat has formed, give it a timeless aesthetic which
comes straight from nature and is therefore unique to each
peat product. Peat is a sterile material, therefore it cannot
accommodate micro-organisms and it doesn’t rot when
coming into contact with water; quite the opposite, natural
peat absorbs peat wonderfully and therefore it offers a great
micro-environment in which to grow plants.

5. In turn, a high air capacity which can reach 20-40% in peat
ensures that in dried form it becomes a hard but light mate-
rial, most amenable to various processing techniques. There-
fore, special skills or instruments are not required in order to
work with this material. The practical advantages offered by
the material, combined with its natural elegance lend them-
selves to a visually attractive result in the hands of both ama-
teurs and professionals.
