EPAV - Diamond Grooving (Ranurado de Pavimentos) ENG
1. DIAMOND GROOVING
Grooving is one of the top rehabilitation practices that can be used on old concrete pavements. Like for grinding, grooving
method uses diamond infused steel cutting blades. Its objetive is to improve the frictional properties of the pavement
surface, make ir smoother, and enhance its macrotexture.
It can be either Longitudinal or Transverse. It is regularly apllied on roads, highways and airports. The grooves are
constructed to a width of between 0.116 to 0.080 inch and spaced approximately 3/4 inch on centers. The depth of grooves
is in the range of 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Grooving has significantly reduced accidents on pavements that exhibit a low co-efficient
of friction or high accident rate. This has been documented in multuple pavement researches.

ADVANTAGES
Cost Effective Restoring Tech. Diamond Grooving
provides a significant increase of the pavement’s
macrotexture.
Reduces Wet Weather Accidents. A proven procedure to
reduce wet weather accidents by providing channels for the
water to drain, as well as improving the frictional resistance
to braking action through transverse grooves or by tracking
vehicles within the grooves around curves on longitudinal
grooves.
A Must on Airports. Reduces aircraft's braking distance.
Avoid Hydroplaning. Improves drainage of water on the
track, avoiding hydroplaning.
Less Rubber. Reduces the accumulation of rubber on the
surface.
