COMPONENTS
1. Stimulus - Changes in the temperature of our external environment can cause core
body temperature to rise or fall
2. Receptors - Nerve endings in the skin and brain (hypothalamus) sense the external
and internal body temperature respectively.
3. Control Centre - The hypothalamus (part of our brain) processes signals from the
thermoreceptors and signals various effectors that are used to restore the core
temperature to its set point (approximately 37°C).
4. Effectors - The following components are used to adjust our core temperature,
compensating for the external environment and restoring our core temperature to
its set point.

11. Effects Of Swedan On Human Body
• Intense short-term heat exposure elevates skin
temperature and core body temperature and
activates thermoregulatory pathways via the
hypothalamus and CNS (central nervous system)
leading to activation of the autonomic nervous
system. The activation of the sympathetic nervous
system, hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal hormonal
axis, and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system
leads to well-documented cardiovascular effects
with increased heart rate, skin blood flow, cardiac
output, and sweating

14. Heat shock proteins
• Heat shock proteins (HSP) are a family of proteins that
are produced by cells in response to exposure to
stressful conditions. They were first described in
relation to heat shock, but are now known to also be
expressed during other stresses including exposure to
cold, UV light and during wound healing or tissue
remodeling. Many members of this group
perform chaperone functions by stabilizing new
proteins to ensure correct folding or by helping to
refold proteins that were damaged by the cell
stress. This increase in expression is transcriptionally
regulated. The dramatic up regulation of the heat
shock proteins is a key part of the heat shock
response and is induced primarily by heat shock
factor(HSF)

cellular chaperones for other proteins. They
play an important role in protein–protein
interactions such as folding and assisting in
the establishment of proper
protein conformation (shape) and prevention
of unwanted protein aggregation. By helping
to stabilize partially unfolded proteins, HSPs
aid in transporting proteins across membranes
within the cell
